HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The visiting Sharks took the offensive end of the ice first to open the Friday evening matchup tallying five shots in the first minute of play against Ava Hills (Pembroke, N.H.). Saint Anselm would grab its first shot on goal in the fifth minute of action and would soon after earn an advantage on a slashing call against Long Island. The Hawks would be unable to convert during their advantage. In the 16th minute of the first period the Sharks grabbed their first score of the evening from Jeannie Wallner at even strength from Ashley Morrow and Anna Fairman. This 1-0 lead would stand going into the first break in play.
- Saint Anselm opened the second period of play with the first two shots of the day as senior Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) was just barely rejected from the Sharks keeper. In the fourth minute the Hawks would earn another power-play opportunity on a hooking call against the Sharks. Saint Anselm would again be unable to convert. In the sixth minute of action Long Island extended their lead to 2-0 with a score from Grace Babington at even strength from Bri Eid. The Sharks would score a third try in the period, but a successful challenge from the Hawks would allow the goal to be overturned and leave the lead at just 2-0 going into the second break.
- The final period of play began in the Sharks favor as they would win the opening faceoff and then register the first handful of shots on goal. Senior Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.) and Turner would look to respond for the Hawks, but the fast-paced skating of the Sharks would force turnovers in the middle ice. Halfway through the period the Saint Anselm squad grabbed another advantage but would continue to struggle on the advantage. With 43 seconds remaining in the game Turner finally broke through the backline scoring at even strength from Brooklyn Schneiderhan (Helena, Mont.).
