HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Anselm skated out looking for redemption on Saturday afternoon scoring in the first period of play within the first 8 minutes as senior Gracee Donovan (Orchard Park, N.Y.) grabbed an even strength score off a pass from sophomore Hailey Tullo (Southwick, Mass.). Stonehill would look for a response on a powerplay in the 10th minute of play but strong goal tending from Annabella Lalande (Lachute, Quebec) would keep them scoreless through the end of the period.
- The Skyhawks opened their own scoring quickly as Maddison Achtyl scored in eight seconds after winning the opening face-off to even the game at a goal a—piece. A cross-checking call on senior Heather McAvoy (Long Beach, N.Y.) would put the Hawks at a disadvantage in the 4th minute. Stonehill would capitalize as Achtyl would grab her second score in the power-play giving the home team a 2-1 advantage. Saint Anselm would earn a power-play of their own but would be unable to respond before the Skyhawks scored their third goal of the afternoon in the 7th minute. At 17:13 Saint Anselm would bring the game back within one score as Donovan grabbed her second goal of the afternoon unassisted. Before the home team could escape with the lead Saint Anselm would score shorthanded as junior Brooklyn Schneiderhan (Helena, Mont.) with 13 seconds remaining. The two teams headed into the final break knotted at 3 goals each.
- Stonehill opened the final period of play on an advantage and would rip five shots on goal quickly, but Lalande would keep them scoreless. In the ninth minute of play Stonehill would get their advantage back from Maeve Connolly at even strength. Saint Anselm fought their way into overtime with a 19th minute goal from first year Lucy DeCoteau (Canton, N.Y.).
- In the overtime period the Hawks would earn an advantage on a body checking penalty against the Skyhawks but would be unable to convert. Stonehill would make their last shootout attempt to win the game.
