HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Anselm kick started scoring on lay-up from freshman Addisen Sulikowski (Saco, Maine) fed from senior Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.). Saint Michael's would find their own response and take a 6-3 lead halfway through the first quarter. A made free throw from senior Marta Pons Gomez (Sevilla, Spain) would bring the game back within one but a made lay up from the Purple Knights would give them the 10-7 lead going into the break.
  • Hoyt would open up the scoring in the second quarter with a strong hook in the paint but would immediately be met with a bucket from Ashlee Talbot. With 4:55 remaining in the half Hoyt would score again keeping the Hawks within three, 16-13. A triple from Talbot would look to extend the Purple Knights lead going into the half, but senior Katie Lemanski (Haymarket, Va.) would have a successful trip at the charity stripe to maintain the three point difference.
  • Both teams opened the second half struggling to score with Saint Anselm scoring just five points and Saint Michael's scoring only four points.
  • A pair of buckets from Hoyt opened the scoring for Saint Anselm in the final quarter of play. With 3:47 remaining in the game Pons Gomez would score to bring the game within one point and then hit a clutch three pointer with 1:34 left to tie the game. Saint Michael's would find another layup from Talbot to go up three, but Hoyt would respond with a made lay-up on an inbound play. A defensive stop from Lemanski would keep the Saint Anselm hopes alive but a turnover in the paint would finalize the Purple Knights victory 48-47.

  • Saint Anselm struggled from the floor shooting 30.0% from the floor going 18-60 attempts, and 26.7% from beyond the arch going 4-15.
  • The Hawks scored 20 points in the paint but only gained two points from their bench.
