MANCHESTER, N.H. – The No. 9 Saint Anselm College field hockey team held off American International College to get back in the win column, defeating the Yellow Jackets by a final score of 2-1 on Wednesday night at Grappone Stadium.

• Junior Meghan Smith scored her fifth goal of the season to join sophomores Meghan Carey and Kelly Holmes as the team leaders in the category.
• Freshman Bella DiFiore scored the second goal of her collegiate career, which served as the eventual game-winner, the first of her career.
• The Hawks outshot the Yellow Jackets, 28-1, with 17 shots going on target.
• Saint Anselm improved to 22-8 all-time against AIC as the squad extended its winning streak against the Yellow Jackets to 10 games, spanning back to the 2015 season.
• The Hawks now hold a 13-3 record in home games against AIC.

How it Happened

Saint Anselm scored 7:24 into the first quarter off of a corner opportunity as sophomore Meghan Carey slid a pass to the back-post for the waiting stick of junior Meghan Smith for her fifth goal of the season, putting the hosts on top.

The Hawks doubled their lead in the second quarter as freshman Bella DiFiore fired in a turnaround shot on a pass from senior Marissa Politano to make it 2-0 with 5:44 to play until halftime.

AIC secured its first corner opportunity with 13 seconds remaining in the third quarter and capitalized on it, as Fenna Voll scored to cut the Yellow Jackets' deficit to just one.

Saint Anselm threatened to add an insurance goal nearly the entire fourth quarter, taking six shots, but could not convert.
