HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Anselm generated a few early scoring chances in the opening three minutes of action, but their lone shot on goal was saved by Saint Michael's goaltender Evan Plunkett.
- Hawks sophomore Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) was up to the task at the other end and denied the Purple Knights on their first shot on goal of the evening as the game remained scoreless.
- The two sides continued to exchange scoring opportunities for the remainder of the opening period. Both goalies stayed perfect with Plunkett making seven more saves and Carroll four more saves as the period finished 0-0.
- The shutout did not last for long as just 16 seconds into the second period, Saint Anselm got on the board. Junior John Myers (White Plains, N.Y.) tucked home a rebound off of an original shot by junior Luke Linart (Holland, Mich.) for his third goal of the season to make it 1-0.
- The Hawks continued to attack moments after taking the lead. They forced three saves out of Plunkett and rang another shot off the pipe within a minute span.
- Saint Anselm was then awarded a power play just over a minute into the second after a holding penalty called on Saint Michael's. Despite the man advantage, it was the Purple Knights who scored while short-handed to tie the score. Ty Bloom won a faceoff in his own zone and quickly got down to the other end of the ice where he found the back of the net to make it 1-1.
- Carroll and Plunkett continued to go toe-to-toe with big stops at both ends to keep the game tied early in the second.
- Midway through the middle frame, things got interesting as Bloom was sent off for a double minor penalty for diving and unsportsmanlike conduct. The Hawks struggled to get anything going on the man advantage as the Purple Knights successfully killed off the four-minute man-down scenario.
- Immediately after killing off the double minor, Saint Michael's earned a power play of their own after an interference call on Saint Anselm. The momentum started to shift with the Purple Knights firing several pucks toward net, but Carroll kept the score tied with three saves as the Hawks killed off the penalty.
- The third period began 4-on-4 after a pair of late penalties were called on each team late in the second. The home team forced Carroll into action once again, but the Hawks netminder was up to the task and made two more denials.
- About five minutes into the third period, the Hawks were sent to the penalty box again, this time for five minutes after a major penalty was called for grabbing the facemask. Carroll made three saves and the Saint Anselm penalty killing unit put forth a strong effort to come away unscathed as the score stayed at 1-1 midway through the third.
- With under six minutes to play, the Hawks went on another power play after a Purple Knight was sent to the box for holding. Just over a minute into the man advantage, Saint Anselm took the lead after Linart and senior Luke Mix (Winchester, Mass.) set up senior Hunter Brackett (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) for the go-ahead goal to make it 2-1.
- Just over two minutes later, the Hawks doubled their advantage with sophomore Patrick DeMarinis (Manasquan, N.J.) potting an insurance goal that made it 3-1 with 2:31 to go.
- All hope was not lost for Saint Michael's as they were given one final power play in the final two minutes of the game. After a pair of blocks by the Saint Anselm defense, senior Max Burum (Marshfield, Mass.) took the puck the other way and fired into the empty net for the short-handed goal to seal the 4-1 road victory for the Hawks.
