Men's Ice Hockey Shut Out at Stonehill

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team fell to NCAA Division I opponent Stonehill by a final score of 7-0 in non-conference action on Tuesday evening.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Stonehill dominated the game with a 56-8 advantage in shots on goal. The Skyhawks posted at least 16 shots on frame in every period including 16 in the first, 18 in the second, and 22 in the third.
  • The Skyhawks scored seven times in the shutout win with two goals coming in each of the first two frames followed by a three-goal third period.
  • Stonehill also held a sizeable lead on faceoffs with 37 wins out of 59 attempts (62.7 percent) at the dot. Saint Anselm won the remaining 22 out of 59 draws (37.3 percent).
  • Sophomore Steve Armstrong (Victor, N.Y.) led the Hawks by going six for 11 (54.5 percent) in the faceoff circle. Henri Schreifels led the Skyhawks with 14 faceoff wins out of 19 attempts (73.7 percent).
  • On the defensive side, Saint Anselm blocked 11 shots in the game, while Stonehill blocked only two shots. Senior Richie Colarusso (Tewksbury, Mass.) posted a game-high three blocked shots for the Hawks.
  • Stonehill excelled on the power play, scoring twice out of three opportunities with five shots on goal during the man advantage. Saint Anselm was held without a power play chance for the entire game.
  • Seven different players scored and 14 different players recorded at least one point in the win for the Skyhawks. They were led by four players who finished with one goal and one assist for two points, including Schreifels, Joseph Grainda, Kyle Heath, and Joel Lehtinen.
  • Sophomore goaltender Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) made a season-high 49 saves in the loss for the Hawks. Skyhawks netminder Linards Lipskis made eight stops between the pipes to earn the shutout victory.
  • This marked the 45th all-time meeting between Saint Anselm and Stonehill. The Hawks fall to 30-9-6 against the Skyhawks in the series that began in 1984.
