HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Anselm jumped out to a 4-3 lead early in the game after baskets in the paint by senior Sean McCarthy (Cork, Ireland) and junior Josh Morissette (Exeter, N.H.).
  • Leonard Tangishaka scored six of the first nine points for Assumption, who obtained a 9-6 advantage.
  • After another bucket by Tangishaka and the Greyhounds, junior Juju Ramirez (Lawrence, Kan.) quickly tied things up for the Hawks at 11-11 after knocking down consecutive jumpers in the paint.
  • Back-to-back threes by Barilugbene Mawo and Myles Alcindor allowed Assumption to pull ahead by six points. Senior Jadon Archer (Enfield, Conn.) came off the bench and provided a response for Saint Anselm with six of the team's next eight points to make it a two-point game at 21-19.
  • The two teams then traded triples with Njavan Stewart and Noah Payne hitting from long range for the Greyhounds while freshman Erik Oliver-Bush (Trenton, N.J.) cashed in from deep for the Hawks as the score changed to 27-22.
  • Oliver-Bush continued his scoring with a fastbreak jam off a steal and assist from Archer, which trimmed the deficit down to four points.
  • After that bucket, Assumption rattled off a 16-3 scoring run over the next five minutes of action to blow the game open. Zamareon McCown scored three layups during that stretch for the Greyhounds, while Mawo finished the run with an alley-oop slam to help make it 44-27 Assumption with 3:10 left in the first half.
  • A made layup by Morissette and three made free throws by senior Zac Taylor (Victoria, Australia) helped calm things down for Saint Anselm, but Assumption ended the half on an 8-0 run after a pair of threes buried by Stewart and the Greyhounds led at the break, 54-32.
  • McCarthy opened the second half with a driving layup on the first possession for the Hawks and two possessions later, Morissette knocked down a three pointer to make it a 58-37 game.
  • Assumption was able to go on a 7-0 run shortly after to extend their lead to 65-37. Tangishaka capped off that run with a steal and an and-one layup in transition for the Greyhounds, who had all the momentum.
  • Saint Anselm then got to the free throw line and made three out of four to cut the deficit back down to 25 points, but another shot from long distance by Stewart increased the Assumption lead back up to 28 points with the score at 70-42.
  • Redshirt-freshman Trevor Labrecque (Nashua, N.H.) provided a bright spot off the bench for the Hawks. He checked in and scored on his first offensive possession before setting up Ramirez with a layup the next time down the court.
  • The Greyhounds did not take their foot off the gas as Stewart poured in two more threes to help give them a 34-point lead, their largest of the game, with the score at 89-55 and 9:23 remaining.
  • Morissette converted on a pair of threes midway through the second half for Saint Anselm. The Hawks defense held the Greyhounds to just two points over the final five minutes of the game, but it was too late for a comeback and Assumption cruised to the win on the road.
