HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Less that two minutes into the game, Saint Anselm went on the power play after Franklin Pierce was called for a hooking penalty. During the man advantage, senior Max Burum (Marshfield, Mass.) fed Brackett out in front. His initial shot was stopped, but he slammed home the rebound to give the Hawks the early 1-0 lead.
- The Ravens fired their first shot on goal a little over three minutes in, but it was stopped by Hawks sophomore goaltender Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley, N.Y.).
- After that, Saint Anselm flat out dominated for the remainder of the first period. The Hawks kept the Ravens pinned in with large amounts of possession in the offensive zone. The Hawks outshot their opposition, 19-0, over the next 10 minutes to maintain the upper hand.
- With six minutes remaining in the opening period, freshman Hunter Hoffman (Stevensville, Md.) sent a puck towards goal from the blue line for Saint Anselm. His shot was saved by Franklin Pierce netminder Jeremy Connor, but sophomore Chris Cordeiro (Barnstable, Mass.) tucked home the rebound for his third goal of the season to increase the Hawks' lead to 2-0.
- The Ravens went on the power play late in the opening period. Carroll made two stops for the Hawks and at the other end, Cordeiro nearly found his second goal of the night, but his shot rang off the post and was cleared away.
- Franklin Pierce started the second period on the man advantage after a Saint Anselm skater was sent to the box for holding with 31 seconds left in the first. It looked like the Hawks were about to successfully kill off the penalty, but Douglas McGuire found the back of the net with two seconds left on the power play to make it a 2-1 game.
- The Hawks quickly bounced back and scored just over two minutes after conceding to pull back ahead by a two-goal margin. Senior Richie Colarusso (Tewksbury, Mass.) wristed a shot past the Ravens goaltender and made it a 3-1 score early in the second period.
- After a couple more saves by Connor, the Ravens got back to work on the other end and trimmed the deficit back down to just a goal with their second goal of the game. Phillip Parker was able to light the lamp for the visitors at the 7:45 mark of the second and made it 3-2.
- Midway through the middle frame, the two sides skated 4-on-4 after a penalty was assessed to each team. Neither team was able to take advantage of the open ice, combining for just one shot on goal as both penalties expired.
- Franklin Pierce started to generate some momentum after that. They ripped six shots on goal and held Saint Anselm without a shot during a six-minute span, but Carroll was able to keep his team in the lead with some big time saves.
- With under one minute left in the period, the Hawks extended their lead back to two goals after sophomore Patrick DeMarinis (Manasquan, N.J.) finished his eighth goal of the year, making it 4-2 heading into the third.
- Saint Anselm continued to wreak havoc early in the final period. New Franklin Pierce goaltender Theo Jacobs, who came off the bench to begin the third, stopped all five shots he faced in the opening two minutes of the period. Burum also back-handed a shot off the cross-bar for the Hawks.
- Five minutes into the third, the Hawks went back on the power play after the Ravens had a player sent off for tripping. Saint Anselm did not create many chances, but senior Chase Reynolds (Middletown, Conn.) was able to score late on the man advantage off a feed from Brackett to make it 5-2.
- Under two minutes later, junior Michael Martignetti (Winchester, Mass.) intercepted a pass in the offensive zone for the Hawks and let one fly from the blue line. His shot was deflected out in front by freshman Brendan Manning (Chandler, Ariz.) and made its way across the goal line to give Saint Anselm a four-goal cushion.
- Midway through the third period, the Hawks scored their seventh goal of the night and their third in three minutes. Burum skated with it behind the cage and found Brackett alone at the doorstep. His one-time shot beat the goaltender high to increase the Saint Anselm lead to 7-2 with 10:20 to play.
- Wyatt De Lise got one back for Franklin Pierce late in the period with a long range wrist shot, but it was not nearly enough as Saint Anselm skated to a 7-3 victory.
