HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Sacred Heart would hit the stat sheet first on Saturday tallying four quick shots to open the first period of play. Saint Anselm would strike first in scoring as Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.) grabbed a score at even strength in the sixth minute of play off of a feed from Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) and Lucy DeCoteau (Canton, N.Y.). Just over a minute later the Pioneers would respond with their own score at even strength as Sydney Antonakis would find the back of the net. The two teams would trade possession until a rebound off of a shot from DeCoteau would find the stick of Turner for the Hawks second score, giving the Hawks a 2-1 advantage going into the break.
  • Saint Anselm would stay hungry coming out of the break, ripping shots totaling eight in one minute of action. The Pioneers would look to respond with four shots of their own but strong goal keeping from Ava Hills (Pembroke, N.H.) would keep the visitors without a score. Trouble struck for Saint Anselm as the Sacred Heart squad would tie the game at two a-piece as Paige McNeil tabbed an even strength score from teammate Sami Bowlby. The Hawks would look to net a game-winner but would be rejected by Lauren Larson going into the break.
  • The Hawks opened the final period of regulation with four quick shots, with the best look coming from senior Gracee Donovan (Orchard Park, N.Y.) who almost snuck the puck past the Pioneer's keeper. Sacred Heart would find their response in the form of a power-play caused by a tripping call on Saint Anselm, but strong defense would keep the Pioneers scoreless. At the end of regulation, the Hawks would tally three quick shots, but Larson forced overtime.
  • Saint Anselm would own the first shot of overtime as Cora Webber (Johnson, R.I.) ripped one at the Pioneers keeper. Sacred Heart would own the next three shots on goal, but a hooking penalty would follow. The Hawks would look to capitalize in the power-play as junior Brooklyn Schneiderhan (Helena, Mont.) would rip three shots just missing one wide for the win and the end of overtime.
  • In the shootout the Jackson and Turner would complete the winning shots as Hills would reject all attempts towards her.
