Saint Anselm Struggles Against Pace on Saturday, 60-52

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm women's basketball team fell in their second consecutive Northeast-10 match-up on Saturday, 60-52 against Pace University.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first bucket of the first quarter of action would come for the home team as Addisen Sulikowski (Saco, Maine) would connect on one of two from the charity stripe. The next bucket would nto fall until three minutes later in the action where senior Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) would connect on a strong post most off of a feed from Sulikowski. The Hawks would extend their lead to five before the visiting Setters would score on a pair of free throws from Tower Lorde. The quarter would come to an end with a run from Pace, taking a 10-8 advantage after the first 10-minutes.
  • Saint Anselm would open the second quarter with a strong pull-up from Harmony Marquez (Rutherford, N.J.) paired with a deep triple from Anna Nelson (Gorham, Maine) to take a 15-12 advantage. With just over three minutes remaining in the half the Setters would tie the match-up at 15-a-piece off of a strong triple from Arianna Stockinger. The visitors would take control to go into halftime taking a 24-20 lead as Marquez would score right before the buzzer.
  • Coming out of halftime the Setters would strike first on a pull up bucket form Shanice Sinclair. Hoyt and Katie Lemanski (Haymarket, Va.) would find a response for the Hawks, but Pace would continue to roll. Halfway through the third quarter the Setters would extend their lead to eight as more shots would start to fall. Lemanski would continue to find success for the Saint Anselm squad keeping the game within three possessions with a driving lay-up and pair of free throws. Pace would notch the final bucket of the quarter as Morgan Ryan would keep the lead at seven with a made triple.
  • To open the fourth quarter the Setters would earn a trip to the charity stripe as Katumina Mansaray would tab two made attempts. A made bucket from Lemanski and Sulikowski would keep the Hawks within seven, but a made free throw and transition lay up from Lorde would extend the Pace lead to double digits 47-37 with 7-minutes left to play. Saint Anselm would keep their hopes of a comeback alive with four back-to-back clutch buckets from Lemanski keeping the game within nine with three minutes remaining. The Hawks would begin to apply pressure and force a pair of turnovers, but the buckets would come too late. The Setters would escape with a 60-52 conference win over Saint Anselm.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Lemanski (11-14 FG, 0-1 3PT,  3-4 FT) led the offensive strike on Wednesday scoring a team-high, and career-high 25 points to go with two steals, and two assists. Marquez (4-8 FG, 1-3 FT) scored the next highest with nine total points to go with a pair of boards.
  • Pace capitalized off of Saint Anselm turnovers, scoring 22 points off of them and 13 points off of second chance opportunities.
