Field Hockey Falls to No. 2 East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, PA. –  The Saint Anselm field hockey team was shut out by the nationally ranked East Stroudsburg Warriors on Friday by a 6-0 final.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • The Warriors struck first in the battle between #2 and #5 with Bella Viruet scoring off a corner play fed from Jady van Gils just before the 12-minute mark of the first quarter. The home team would continue to maintain momentum earning three penalty corners in the second quarter leading to multiple scoring opportunities. On the first corner of the quarter Allyson Forman would find the back of the net from a set play feed from Kerry Kaufman putting the Warriors up 2-0. East Stroudsburg would break through again in the quarter with Jessica Seidel scoring off of a smooth pass from Emma Friend at the 22nd minute mark.
  • The Hawks would find themselves with opportunities to start the second half earning six quick penalty corners in the first five minutes of the half alongside five shots from those corners. The Warriors responded to the defensive pressure and move the ball up the field into scoring position. After earning a penalty corner the home team capitalized off a feed from Jessica Seidel and shot and score from Jady van Gils putting the Warriors up 4-0 with six minutes left in the third quarter. Saint Anselm would find themselves with another scoring opportunity shortly later, but the shot would go wide. East Stroudsburg would end the quarter with another shot and score from van Gils putting them at a 5-0 advantage going into the final quarter.
  • In the fourth the Warriors kept their feet on the gas finding a sixth score from Minke Klijn off a feed from Allyson Forman. The home team would continue to maintain possession for the majority of the quarter before the final horn would seal the score at 6-0 in favor of East Stroudsburg.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • Senior Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn) registered 1 save and allowed five goals against eight shots in net for the Hawks.
  • The Hawks tabbed seven shots and took on seven corners on the day.
  • Van Fils led the Warriors attack registering two goals and an assist on the day, followed by Forman who registered a goal and an assist.
  • The Warriors keepers tabbed three saves and allowed no goals on the day.
  • East Stroudsburg put up ten shots and took on nine corners during the competition.
