MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College field hockey team found their first victory of the season against Maryville University on Thursday by a 3-1 final score.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The visitors from Missouri struck first in the opening quarter at Saint Anselm's first home game of the season. Denise Van der Spuy found a rebound shot and score from teammate Delanie Winkelmann's shot off of a penalty corner to put Maryville ahead, 1-0.
- The Hawks found their way into the offensive end, but failed to score in the first quarter.
- In the second, Saint Anselm found themselves in a scoring position, earning a corner that was taken by fifth-year Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.). The Hawks capitalized off of the corner with Davis scoring off of a feed from senior Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.) to even the game at 1-1 going into halftime.
- The second half began rather uneventful for both teams, with the third quarter ending scoreless.
- In the fourth quarter, the Hawks erupted with back-to-back goals, both off of penalty corners. Lewandowski scored her first goal of the season off of feed from senior Grace Michael (Hampton Falls, N.H.) from a set play off of a corner. The second consecutive corner delivered another score for the home team with senior Ava Rayfield (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) tipping in a goal off another feed from Lewandowski.
- These quick scores sealed the win for the Hawks, moving their record to 1-2 this season.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Senior Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn) registered six saves and allowed one goal in the cage for the Hawks.
- Lewandowski led the offensive push by scoring one goal and adding two assists with three shots on goal.
- The Hawks tabbed 11 shots and took six penalty corners on the day.
- Van de Spuy led the way for the Saints, scoring their one goal..
- The Saints totaled nine shots and six corners.
