Hawks Tripped Up by Defending Champions Kutztown Golden Bears

Box Score KUTZTOWN, PA. – The Saint Anselm College field hockey team was stumped by defending Division II Champions the Kutztown Golden Bears by a 4-0 final.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
  • The home team struck first on Thursday with a long range shot from Greenleigh McGehee (New Tripoli, Pa.) nine minutes into the first quarter off a feed from Grace Harrold (York, Pa.). The Golden Bears would press their lead further in the second quarter, scoring off a penalty corner play with a rebound feed from Juliana Donato (Cedarville, N.J.) finding Jessica Traynor (Pennsburg, Pa.) for a back post shot and score.
  • The Hawks would attempt to find momentum in the second half earning penalty corners but were unable to capitalize before the home team would strike again. A tip in shot from Traynor would give the squad a three-goal advantage with 14-minutes left to play. Three minutes later teammate Mia Simpson (Wildwood, Mo.) would provide the final blow with a solo shot and score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 
  • Senior Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn) registered 11 saves and allowed four goals against in net for the Hawks.
  • The Hawks tabbed three shots and took on five corners on the day.
  • Traynor led the Golden Bears with two goals on the day, followed by teammate McGehee who notched a goal and an assist.
  • Kutztown's keeper Graduate student Mia Kepler (Wall Township, N.J.) faced three shots on the day and registered zero saves in the win.
  • The Golden Bears put up 19 shots and took on 13 corners during the competition.
