HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Anselm generated the first two shot opportunities of the match in the opening seven minutes with senior Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.) and fifth-year Tara McCleary (Quincy, Mass.) each letting off strikes from distance, but neither were on target.
  • Pace registered the first shot on goal of the game in the 24th minute with Kelly Dubois testing Saint Anselm freshman goalkeeper Samantha Swidorski (Woodbury, Minn.), who was able to make the save.
  • The visiting Hawks broke through in the 28th minute. Senior Erin Rutherford (Ashburnham, Mass.) clipped ahead a lofted ball off a set piece. DiGilio was able to track it down and head a shot into the lower left corner to make it 1-0.
  • Each team earned a corner kick in the final moments of the first half, but the score remained 1-0 at the break.
  • Both sides exchanged scoring chances in the opening minutes of the second half, with junior Gabrielle Chisholm (Danvers, Mass.) putting a shot on frame for the Hawks and Ava Viebrock putting a shot on frame for the Setters, but both were saved.
  • Saint Anselm doubled its lead in the 54th minute with DiGilio potting her second score of the match. Chisholm made her way down the right wing and cut a pass back to DiGilio, who collected and fired a shot from the top corner of the box into the top left corner of the net, making it 2-0.
  • The intensity started to pick up after the second goal with both teams creating scoring opportunities. The Hawks recorded nine shot attempts over the next 25 minutes of action and forced Setters goalkeeper Annabella Cole to make four more saves.
  • Pace got on the scoreboard in the 83rd minute with Alexis Lee finding the back of the net off of a set piece just outside the penalty box, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
  • With two minutes left in the game, the Setters got back to work on the offensive end. Shannon Selvaggio got the ball on the right wing, took a touch inside, and fired a left-footed shot that went up and over Swidorski and into the side netting to tie the score at 2-2, which is how the match went on to end.
