HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Reminder looked to be in trouble after Bentley put runners on the corners with one out in the bottom of the first, but the junior forced a pop out and a flyout to get out of the early jam.
  • Senior Aidan Dow (Lynn, Mass.) led off the top of the second with a base hit and freshman Declan Ryan (Hooksett, N.H.) was then hit by a pitch, putting runners at first and second with one out. However, the Hawks failed to score after consecutive pop outs ended the inning.
  • Saint Anselm similarly put runners on first and second with one out after back-to-back singles by Gonzalez and senior Nolan Elmore (Brentwood, N.H.) with one down in the top of the third, but Bentley starting pitcher Ryan Glupe recorded two quick outs to keep the game scoreless.
  • Reminder tossed one-two-three innings in the second, third, and fifth innings, but the Hawks could not get anything going at the plate as the score remained at 0-0 after five.
  • Bentley finally got the offense going with a four-run bottom of the sixth. Cory Bright led off with a double and then scored after another double by Tyler Gonzalez, which made it 1-0. Steve Rizzuto then launched a two-run homer over the left field fence to put the Falcons up, 3-0.
  • Before the end of the sixth, Jackson Walonis brought home one more run for Bentley with an RBI single and the Falcons led by four. The home team tacked on another score in the bottom of the eighth and took a 5-0 advantage going into the ninth.
  • After a pop up to the catcher started the top half of the ninth, Saint Anselm recorded three straight singles to load the bases. Ryan, junior Daniel Scolaro (Quincy, Mass.), and freshman Austin Brune (Billerica, Mass.) each recorded a base hit for the Hawks to start a late rally.
  • Senior Zack Clough (Newbury, Mass.) brought home Ryan with a sacrifice fly to center and Gonzalez scored Scolaro with an RBI single to make it 5-2. Elmore came to the plate with two men on with two outs and a chance to tie the score, but a groundout ended the game with Bentley coming out on top.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Saint Anselm recorded two runs on nine hits and left 10 runners on base. Bentley finished with five runs on eight hits and left nine runners stranded on the base paths. Both teams recorded an error apiece in the game.
  • The Falcons had four extra base hits that came on three doubles and a home run. All nine Hawks hits were singles.
  • Gonzalez had his first career four-hit game after going 4-for-5 with four singles and an RBI.
  • Reminder tossed 5.2 innings on the mound for Saint Anselm. The junior allowed four earned runs on seven hits and struck out one after 88 pitches.
  • Senior Will Hunter (Middleton, Mass.) replaced Reminder and threw 1.1 innings where he gave up one hit and two walks, but did not concede a run. Senior Roman Ercoli (Concord, Mass.) threw one inning in relief for the Hawks and allowed one earned run after hitting two batters.
  • This marked the 139th game between these two programs in a series that dates back to 1981. Saint Anselm is now 48-90-1 all-time against Bentley.
