MANCHESTER, N.H. – An RBI single by junior
Sam Wiberg (Exeter, N.H.) in the bottom of the seventh inning plated senior
Hannah Ramer (Rehoboth, Mass.) and gave the Saint Anselm College softball team a walk-off 4-3 win in game two of Saturday's doubleheader, the final regular season series against league-leading Adelphi University. It is the second walk-off hit of the week for Wiberg, who hit a walk-off home run in extra innings earlier this week against Saint Michael's College.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- Adelphi's Zee Zee Shreter led off game one with a walk and then stole second and third. A sacrifice fly by Jordyn Pasqueralli scored Shreter to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
- Saint Anselm responded with two singles in the bottom half of the inning by seniors Ava Caputo (Waterford, N.Y.) and Gracie O'Hara (Shrewsbury, Mass.), but the Hawks could not get either to cross home plate and ended the inning with consecutive strikeouts.
- After giving up a leadoff double in the top of the second, Hawks freshman starting pitcher Sam Ryan (Tewksbury, Mass.) got out of the inning by forcing two groundouts. Ryan then struck out the side in the top of the third to keep her team down just a run.
- Two throwing errors committed by Saint Anselm allowed Adelphi to score a run in both the fourth and fifth innings, making it a 3-0 Panthers lead.
- Ryan faced some trouble again after back-to-back singles by Adelphi opened up the top of the sixth. However, the freshman battled to get three straight outs including a strikeout to end the frame.
- O'Hara doubled in the bottom of the sixth, but the Hawks could not get her home. The Panthers added one more run in the top of the seventh and took a 4-0 lead into the final half an inning.
- With two outs and runners on the corners in the bottom of the seventh, Ramer drove in a run with an RBI double to left, but Caputo was thrown out at the plate after trying to score from first, giving Adelphi the win in game one.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 1):
- Saint Anselm had one run on six hits and left six runners on base. Adelphi had four runs on seven hits and left seven runners stranded. The Hawks committed five errors in the game, while the Panthers committed one.
- The Hawks had two extra base hits, both of which came on doubles, while the Panthers had just one extra base hit on a double. Adelphi stole four bases in game one, with three steals being credited to Shreter.
- At the plate, O'Hara led Saint Anselm with a 2-for-3 game, while Ramer had the only RBI for the Hawks.
- Ryan threw all seven innings in the circle for the Hawks and allowed seven hits, but just one earned run. The first-year recorded six strikeouts and walked one in the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- The Hawks got on the scoreboard first thanks to an RBI double by sophomore Rose Reitmeyer (Oxford, Conn.) that scored Ramer and gave Saint Anselm the early 1-0 edge in the bottom of the first.
- Senior starting pitcher Haile Hicks (Jefferson, N.H.) recorded her first strikeout of the game to retire the side and end the top of the second.
- In the bottom of the second, freshman Katie Tournas (Fairfield, Conn.) ripped the ball up the middle for a base hit. That was followed by a double from freshman Jamie Calkins (Charlton, Mass.) to put two Hawks in scoring position. With one out, Caputo flew out to left field which scored Tournas and doubled Saint Anselm's lead.
- Hicks continued to excel in the circle for Saint Anselm, striking out a batter in both the third and fourth to keep Adelphi off the board.
- Tournas led off the bottom of the fourth with a double to left-center field. Caputo then earned her second RBI of the game on a double down the left field line that scored Tournas and made it a 3-0 game.
- The Panthers scored their first run of the contest in the top of the fifth after Pasqueralli picked up an RBI single. Adelphi tied the game at 3-3 in the next inning thanks to a two-run home run by Kendall Winn.
- With two outs in the top of the seventh, Courtney Wengryn singled to right field for the Panthers, but she was thrown out at second base by a dart from Caputo to retire the side.
- Freshman Brooke Tardugno (Meuthen, Mass.) checked into the game as a pinch runner for Caputo, who walked to start the bottom of the seventh. Ramer then reached on a fielder's choice as the Panthers secured the putout at second base. After a single by O'Hara put two runners on base for Saint Anselm, Wiberg ripped a walk-off single to left-center field, scoring Ramer to give the Hawks a 4-3 win to split the doubleheader.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (Game 2):
- Saint Anselm produced four runs off nine hits and had zero errors, while Adelphi recorded three runs off seven hits and had one error. The Panthers left seven runners on base, while the Hawks stranded six on the base paths.
- The Hawks posted four extra-base hits, all of which were doubles, while the Panthers had three extra-base hits in the game coming from two doubles and a home run. Neither team picked up a stolen base in the second game.
- Wiberg went 2-for-4 at the plate with the walk-off RBI for Saint Anselm. Tournas also had a 2-for-4 performance and scored two runs to go along with a double in the win.
- Caputo ended the game with a team-high two RBIs after going 1-for-2 with a double and a walk, while Reitmeyer picked the other RBI along with a double.
- Hicks secured her 17th win of the season in the circle after pitching seven innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits. The senior also struck out three batters in the victory.
- These games marked the 28th and 29th games between these programs in the all-time series that dates back to 2004. Saint Anselm improves to 12-16-1 against Adelphi with the win in game two.
