MANCHESTER, N.H. – In Friday afternoon's single game of action from the Sullivan Park at Kavanagh Fields, Southern New Hampshire got out to a fast start and never looked back, ultimately prevailing by a final score of 17-2 over the Saint Anselm College baseball team.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Southern New Hampshire jumped out to an early 4-0 lead following three RBI singles. Still in the top of the first, the Penmen loaded the bases and leadoff man Harry Vargas Segura came back to the plate for the second time in the frame. Vargas Segura launched a two-out grand slam deep to right field to make it 8-0.
- Nater Wachter added an RBI triple in the same inning, giving Southern New Hampshire a nine-run lead after just the top of the first.
- Saint Anselm put two runners on base in the bottom of the first with senior Zack Clough (Newbury, Mass.) reaching on an error and freshman Brendan Gonzalez (Mechanicville, N.Y.) singling to right-center, but the Hawks stranded both runners.
- After a leadoff walk to start the second inning, Saint Anselm made a call to the bullpen. Senior pitcher Hunter Harris (Altamont, N.Y.) entered the game in relief and forced a double play and then another groundout to end the inning.
- However, the Penmen tacked on another six runs over the next two innings including four in the top of the fourth. Southern New Hampshire loaded the bases and three straight batters walked, bringing in three runs in a row via the free pass to extend their lead to 15-0.
- The Hawks got on the board in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs and runners on the corners, junior Daniel Scolaro (Quincy, Mass.) ripped a double off the wall in center field that scored a pair.
- Senior pitcher Andrew MacDonald (Amesbury, Mass.), who entered the game towards the end of the fourth, tossed scoreless fifth and sixth innings while not allowing a hit.
- In the top of the seventh, Jorge Burgos hit a solo home run for Southern New Hampshire and Wachter brought home one more run for the Penmen in the top of the eighth, bringing the score to 17-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Southern New Hampshire scored their 17 runs on 15 hits and left nine runners on base. Saint Anselm had two runs on six hits and left eight runners stranded. The Hawks committed two errors in the game while the Penmen committed one.
- The Penmen had 11 walks and four extra base hits with two home runs. The Hawks had two extra base hits on a pair of doubles. Southern New Hampshire recorded four stolen bases compared to just one for Saint Anselm.
- Six different Hawks had one hit led by Scolaro, who went 1-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs.
- On the mound, freshman Andrew Chenevert (Dracut, Mass.) earned the loss after starting and only lasting two thirds of an inning while allowing eight earned runs on five hits. Freshman Quinn MacDonald (Kennebunkport, Maine) replaced him and tossed a third of an inning, surrendering a hit, a run, and two walks. Harris lasted 2.2 innings, giving up four hits and five earned runs while striking out a pair.
- Andrew MacDonald replaced Harris and went 3.1 innings, allowing just one earned run, two hits, and three walks. Seniors Roman Ercoli (Concord, Mass.) and Griffin Tomaszycki (Taunton, Mass.) tossed an inning apiece to end the game. Ercoli gave up one run on two hits while Tomaszycki struck out two in a scoreless final frame.
- Saint Anselm is now 34-68 in the all-time series against Southern New Hampshire after today's loss.
