HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Southern New Hampshire applied pressure early, firing the game's first shot on goal just 13 seconds into the game and forcing a save out of Saint Anselm's senior goaltender Anthony Kubik (Chicago, Ill.).
- About five minutes into the first, the Hawks defense forced a Penmen turnover and took it the other way where senior Nick Larsen (Northborough, Mass.) dodged to his right hand and ripped a shot for his 12th goal of the year to put Saint Anselm in front, 1-0.
- Less than a minute later, the Hawks were awarded a man-up opportunity after a tripping penalty was called on the Penmen. Junior Will Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.) fed his brother, fifth-year Jack Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.), who bounced a shot into the cage to make it 2-0, Saint Anselm.
- Ryan Auger put Southern New Hampshire on the board with a goal at the 7:12 mark of the first quarter, but Saint Anselm responded with three straight scores. With 6:00 minutes remaining in the first, senior Jake Davis (Franklin, Mass.) fed fifth-year Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.), who bounced in the third goal of the game for the Hawks from the top of the crease.
- With 4:12 left, sophomore Colby Goodchild (Reading, Mass.) scooped up a ground ball in the defensive half and ran it across midfield before tossing a pass ahead to Davis out in front for another Hawks goal. Yannone won the ensuing faceoff for Saint Anselm and ran it down the field where he found Davis, who picked out the top right corner with a sidearm shot to increase the Hawks lead to 5-1 just six seconds later.
- With 38 seconds to play in the quarter, Eric Bua scored for Southern New Hampshire, but Mulvey answered for Saint Anselm with just six seconds left to make it 6-2 heading into the second quarter.
- After a scoreless opening five and a half minutes of the second, Larsen increased the Hawks' lead to 7-2. Coming out of a timeout, Larsen spun back to his left and ripped a sidearm shot to the top shelf for his second of the game.
- However, Auger finished his second of the game shortly after to cut the deficit back down to four goals for the Penmen. John Serina tried to score for Southern New Hampshire as well, but his wrap around effort was denied by Kubik.
- The Chicago native denied another Penmen opportunity with under two minutes to go in the half and then threw it up ahead for a clear. The Hawks eventually scored on that same possession with Mulvey sprinting out from behind the cage and scoring his second of the game as Saint Anselm led, 8-3, at halftime.
- 11 seconds into the second half, Jack Andrews rang a shot off the post, but a couple minutes later ended up tallying his second of the afternoon on a high bouncing shot to give the Hawks their largest lead of the game to that point, 9-3.
- At the 11:05 mark of the third, Matt Antonetti scored for Southern New Hampshire to make it 9-4. Both defenses started to step their game up after that, causing two turnovers apiece midway through the third quarter.
- Kubik continued to stand his ground between the pipes for Saint Anselm with two huge saves, but Southern New Hampshire broke through with 5:50 left in the third on a man-up goal by Tim Krutz to bring the margin back down to just four goals.
- The Hawks won the ensuing faceoff and ripped three straight shots on goal, but Penmen goaltender Ronan DePaul made saves on all three to keep his team within striking distance. That defensive stand allowed Southern New Hampshire to score their third unanswered goal on the offensive end. Krutz set up Jack Terrones to make it 9-6 with 2:54 to go in the third.
- Robinson hit the pipe for the second time in the period for Saint Anselm with just over a minute left and the score remained the same going into the fourth and final quarter.
- The Hawks ended their 13 minute goalless drought with a score less than a minute into the fourth. Robinson fed Mulvey from behind the net and Mulvey secured his hat trick to put Saint Anselm ahead, 10-6.
- Over the next couple of minutes, Kubik protected his team's four-goal advantage by making two more saves and with 5:36 left in the game, Larsen set up Mulvey right in front of goal for a much needed insurance tally. Sophomore Maverick Lyon (Albany, Ore.) added another shortly after, powering his way through a defender to open up a shooting angle to make it 12-6.
- In the final two minutes of the game, Davis completed his hat trick and Mulvey added his career-best fifth goal to put the finishing touches on a 14-6 victory.
