HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Anselm won the opening faceoff and exactly a minute into the game, senior Jake Davis (Franklin, Mass.) took a right-handed shot on the run that rang off the cross-bar.
- Fifth-year Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) got the scoring started for the Hawks at the 11:21 mark of the first. Robinson drove past his defender along goal-line extended and ran right up to the cage. His left-handed shot put Saint Anselm ahead, 1-0.
- Cam Smith tied things up for Saint Rose 34 seconds later with a behind-the-back goal out in front.
- The Hawks responded with three straight goals within 41 seconds to take a commanding 4-1 lead. Lombardi, fifth-year Jack Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.), and sophomore Chris Claflin (Newton, Mass.) all recorded their first tallies of the game for Saint Anselm.
- With 5:32 remaining in the first, Claflin was isolated with a short stick defender up top. He made a quick cut to his left and ripped a shot into the top corner for his second of the game to make it 5-1, Hawks.
- In the final minutes of the opening quarter, senior goaltender Anthony Kubik (Chicago, Ill.) made a pair of saves and at the other end, Claflin set up Jake Davis for his first of the game as Saint Anselm took a five-goal advantage into the second quarter.
- To start the second, Saint Rose goaltender Ryan Gainor made two early saves, allowing Jack Rice to go down and score the second goal of the game for the Golden Knights to make it 6-2. A little over a minute later, Rice drove to the net looking for his second straight score, but Kubik denied his low attempt on frame.
- With seven minutes left in the half, Saint Anselm earned a man-up opportunity. Jack Andrews helped the Hawks capitalize with a right-handed rip from up top. 42 seconds after that, Jake Davis found junior Colin Mulvey (Reading, Mass.) wide open in front of goal. Mulvey casually found the back of the net to extend Saint Anselm's lead to 8-2.
- Alex Johanson cut to the net and received a pass before scoring for Saint Rose to bring the deficit back down to five goals, but with 2:29 left in the half, senior Nick Larsen (Northborough, Mass.) spun to his left and fired into the lower left corner to push the lead back up to six goals with the score being 9-3, Saint Anselm.
- The Hawks took that lead into halftime. The visitors had a strong opening 30 minutes on defense, allowing just three goals and forcing 14 Golden Knights turnovers.
- Saint Rose got the first possession of the third quarter due to a Saint Anselm faceoff violation. The Golden Knights wasted no time and scored 53 seconds into the period with Rice recording his second tally of the afternoon.
- The Hawks started to control things again after taking four of the game's next five shot attempts. That pressure paid off as the Golden Knights were sent off for a 30-second interference penalty. Saint Anselm converted once again on the man-up opportunity with Nick Larsen behind the net finding a cutting Lombardi, who scored his second of the game from just outside the crease to make it a 10-4 game.
- The Saint Anselm defense came through once again, shutting down Saint Rose during a one minute man-up chance after a slashing penalty to preserve their six-goal advantage. At the other end, Claflin secured his hat trick by putting his short stick defender on the ground before rifling a side-arm shot into the top corner for his third of the game.
- 11 seconds later, Jack Andrews became the second Hawk to record a hat trick. Andrews collected the ground ball on the face off and raced down the right alley. His shot also found the top corner, making it 12-4, Saint Anselm. Lombardi completed his hat trick in the third quarter as well, finding the back of the net with an underhanded attempt from the slot with 5:40 left.
- The Hawks were not done on the offensive end, increasing the lead to 10 goals with just over a minute left in the third. Sophomore Brady Martin (Winchester, Mass.) got out in transition and drove straight to goal. Martin drew a defender out and found Jake Davis open in front of the net to make it 14-4. It was the first assist of the season for Martin.
- The Golden Knights scored two quick goals in an eight-second span to end the third quarter. Aiden Blouin and Danny Bezrutchenko each scored to trim the margin back down to eight goals.
- Nick Larsen picked up his second goal of the game three minutes into the fourth quarter with almost the same move as his first goal. Larsen spun to his left and went low to high to make it 15-6, Hawks. Saint Anselm won the ensuing faceoff and shortly after, Lombardi scored his fourth of the afternoon with a snipe from the top left to once again put Saint Anselm ahead by 10 goals.
- With 10 minutes left in the game, fifth-year goaltender Will Davis (Franklin, Mass.) made his first stop of the game after checking in for Saint Anselm during the fourth.
- Smith then made it a single-digit deficit once more, scoring his second for Saint Rose with 4:25 left in the contest, but Mulvey potted his second as well just over a minute later, making it 17-7, Saint Anselm.
- For the third time in the game, Nick Larsen got the ball at X and lofted a pass over the top of the cage, finding junior Will Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.) open up top. Andrews fired a shot past Gainor and into the net to increase the Hawks' lead to 18-7 with two minutes left.
- Freshman Ryan Weller (Canton, Conn.) put the finishing touches on the win with his second goal of the season. Weller drove down the right alley and bounced a shot into the goal to make Saint Anselm's lead an even dozen with 1:27 remaining.
- Noah Gibson scored with under a minute left in the game, but the Hawks ran out the clock and picked up their fourth victory of the season.
