HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Jared Reminder (Warwick, R.I.) started on the mound for Saint Anselm and began the game with two solid innings, forcing Slippery Rock to go down in order in both the first and second. However, the Hawks could not get a baserunner during the first three innings and the game remained scoreless.
  • In the bottom of the third, Slippery Rock got their first run of the day to take the lead. Brett Galcik hit a ground rule double to left-center field. After Galcik advanced to third on a fly out to right, Braden Olson hit a sacrifice fly to left to put The Rock up, 1-0.
  • Slippery Rock put up two more runs in the bottom of the fourth. One run scored on a wild pitch and another on a passed ball as The Rock took a 3-0 advantage.
  • Saint Anselm got its first baserunner of the game aboard in the top of the fifth, courtesy of a walk by freshman Austin Brune (Billerica, Mass.), but the Hawks failed to get him across home plate and the score remained 3-0.
  • Senior Will Hunter (Middleton, Mass.) replaced Reminder at the start of the bottom of the fifth. Hunter gave up a double in both the fifth and sixth innings, but got out of the jam both times to keep his team in it.
  • The Hawks earned a base on balls in both the sixth and eighth innings, but were not able to move the runners on either occasion as they remained hitless and scoreless through eight.
  • In the bottom of the eighth, Gage Gilott led off with a double for Slippery Rock. The next batter, Michael Kitko, homered to left to make it 5-0, Lions.
  • Junior Adam Betty (Lowell, Mass.) came on to finish the inning for Saint Anselm and got three outs after facing the minimum amount of batters.
  • The Hawks went down in order in the ninth and final inning as The Rock earned the 5-0 win.
