HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Just 45 seconds in, junior Abigail Christmas (Elmira, N.Y.) caught a pass up top, drove to the net, and fired a shot into the top left corner to give Saint Anselm a 1-0 lead.
- Jennie Boyle helped Florida Tech even things up about a minute later. Boyle caught a pass at the top of the crease before turning and finding the back of the net.
- At the 11:55 mark of the first quarter, Rivet scooped up a loose ball in the offensive zone. She spun past one defender, dodged past another, and took a right-handed shot that beat the goalie for her fifth goal of the season, making it 2-1 Hawks.
- The Panthers won the ensuing draw control. Boyle collected the ball, took it down the left alley, and threw a backdoor pass to Sophia Scichlione, who tied the score at 2-2.
- Shortly after, Ferullo cut to the net and received a pass from senior Isabella Stuzynski (Bedford, Mass.) from behind the net. Her shot beat the goalie to the weak side and gave Saint Anselm its third lead of the quarter, 3-2. Rivet doubled that lead for the Hawks with her second of the game after an underhanded backhand shot that found the top right corner to make it 4-2.
- The Panthers responded with a Caroline Finn goal with 5:38 remaining in the first quarter, but Rivet completed her hat trick two minutes later with a low right-handed shot to help the Hawks retake their two-goal advantage, 5-3, which was the score after 15 minutes of play.
- Florida Tech cut the deficit back down to one goal 54 seconds into the second quarter with Scichlione picking up her second tally of the game, but 30 seconds later senior Maggie Fitzgerald (Holliston, Mass.) put Saint Anselm back ahead by two with a left-handed bounce shot.
- Fitzgerald then set up Ferullo for her second of the night, and freshman Lucy Mawn (Harwich, Mass.) scored under a minute later after a beautiful hesitation move from the top, extending the Hawks' lead to four goals and forcing a timeout by the Panthers.
- Saint Anselm then missed on a free-position opportunity and Florida Tech scored three unanswered goals to make it 8-7 with 3:37 to play. Scichlione secured her hat trick and picked up two assists during that sequence for the Panthers.
- With less than a minte left in the first half, freshman Alyssa Hill (Brookline, N.H.) earned a free-position chance for Saint Anselm and capitalized with her third goal of the season, but Carly Niro scored with nine seconds left for Florida Tech as the Hawks held a 9-8 lead at halftime.
- Junior goaltender Elizabeth Driscoll (Marblehead, Mass.) made two saves for Saint Anselm inside the first three minutes of the second half, which included the denial of a Florida Tech free-position shot. At the other end, Fitzgerald scored her second goal on a player-up free-position chance to put the Hawks back ahead by two.
- With under five minutes left in the third, the Panthers got into a rhythm offensively, scoring three goals in under two minutes to take an 11-10 lead. Fitzgerald tied things up with a minute left in the third quarter for her third goal of the game.
- Ferullo gave Saint Anselm the lead back early in the fourth with her third goal, but Florida Tech once again scored three straight. Sophie Bender scored two of those to give the Panthers a two-goal advantage.
- The Hawks showed some fight down the stretch despite trailing, with Rivet setting up Ferullo for her fourth of the night to make it a one-goal game, 14-13. The teams then traded goals with Boyle scoring for the Panthers and Hill scoring for the Hawks to make it 15-14, Florida Tech.
- With under 2:30 remaining in the game, Florida Tech tallied two insurance goals to go ahead, 17-14. Rivet scored her fourth of the night with 28 seconds remaining, but Saint Anselm ran out of time and fell by two.
