HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Senior Tommy Schwartz (Ridgefield, Conn.) fired the opening two shots of the game with one on frame to force an early save from Saint Michael's goalie Marshall Murphy. Freshman Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) posted his first save of the day after stopping a shot attempt from Hans Forselius less than two minutes into the first period. After about three minutes of play, respectively, the Purple Knights earned a two-man advantage after back-to-back penalties were called on the Hawks. Saint Michael's registered five total shots with Carroll making three saves and senior Alec Garce (Laguna Hills, Calif.) posting a block to keep the Purple Knights off the scoresheet.
  • Saint Michael's continued to push their attack outshooting Saint Anselm 10-3 approaching the midway point of the period. Shortly after the Hawks killed another Purple Knight power play, junior Max Burum (Marshfield, Mass.) slipped the puck around Murphy to put Saint Anselm in the lead 1-0 at the 13:21 mark.
  • The Hawks quickly doubled their advantage to start the second period with a score from senior Liam Lyons (Gloucester, Mass.) off the assist from senior Will Christensen (Ridgefield, Conn.) to make it 2-0. A few minutes later, Saint Michael's earned their fourth power play chance and capitalized thanks to Case Kantgias finding the back of the net to cut Saint Anselm's lead in half to 2-1.
  • Following Saint Michael's goal, Saint Anselm went 0-for-2 with the extra skater registering a total of four shots combined between the two power play opportunities. At the 17:59 mark, the Purple Knights tied the game up at 2-2 with a late score by Ty Bloom just before the final intermission.
  • Carroll produced three saves along with a block by Schwartz in the opening two minutes of play of the third period. Both teams continued to exchange shots as the period waned until Kantgias notched his second goal of the day to give the Purple Knights the 3-2 lead with about seven minutes remaining in the game. The Hawks continued to battle firing eight shots in final minutes, but Saint Michael's sealed the series sweep with the 3-2 win.
