HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Junior Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) scored Saint Anselm's first basket of the night and Forbes knocked down a pair at the free throw line, but the Hawks trailed, 8-4, midway through the opening quarter.
  • The Hawks were not behind for long, however, as junior Katie Lemanski (Haymarket, Va.) scored two points from inside the paint. That was shortly followed up by a three-pointer from Robles to make it 9-8, Saint Anselm.
  • With the score tied, 13-13, and under a minute to play in the first, Forbes got two jumpers to fall and the Hawks led by four at the start of quarter number two.
  • After Pace tied it back up early in the second, Forbes poured in four straight for Saint Anselm to help her team regain the lead. A few minutes later, Robles cashed in from long distance and followed that up with a layup as the Hawks held a 27-21 advantage at halftime. Saint Anselm conceded just eight points in the second quarter and held Pace scoreless for the final four minutes.
  • The Hawks continued their defensive prowess to start the second half and held the Setters without a point for another 3:15. In all, Saint Anselm held Pace scoreless for 7:43 of game time between the second and third.
  • That strong effort on the defensive end allowed the Hawks to rattle off a 6-0 run and take a 12-point lead early in the third. The Setters finally ended their scoreless drought when Victoria Dieguez made two free throws, but Saint Anselm still led by double-digits.
  • It was a well-balanced attack for Saint Anselm throughout the third, with Forbes, Hoyt, Lemanski, Robles, and senior Alexa Quirolo (New Rochelle, N.Y.) all getting in on the scoring. Forbes provided the Hawks with an and-one and a triple by Lemanski with 3:29 remaining in the third kept the Hawks in front by 13 points.
  • With a 14-point lead to start the fourth, Robles made a layup to make it 50-34, Hawks. The visitors held Pace without a point for almost four minutes, but a 5-0 run after the drought helped the Setters trim the deficit back down to 11 points.
  • The teams traded baskets over the final five minutes and Saint Anselm eventually won by 13 points. The Hawks scored just eight points in the final period, all by Forbes and Robles, but they only allowed nine and earned a victory for the first time in exactly a month.
