MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team took down the Penmen of Southern New Hampshire University by a final score of 8-3 on Saturday afternoon to split the weekend conference series at Sullivan Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hawks registered the opening eight shots of the game featuring a pair of shots from junior Luke Mix (Winchester, Mass.). Coleman Nee ripped the first shot for Southern N.H. that junior Will van der Veen (Duxbury, Mass.) blocked. At the 11:14 mark, sophomore Luke Linart (Holland, Mich.) gathered a rebound and wrapped the puck around the Penmen goalie to give Saint Anselm the 1-0 edge.
- With under four minutes left in the period, the Penmen earned a late power play chance. Southern N.H. posted seven shots with the extra skater but couldn't capitalize after freshman goalie Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) made five saves to keep the Hawks ahead 1-0 heading into the second period.
- Early in the second period, van der Veen put the puck in the back of the net on a power play to double Saint Anselm's lead in the opening three minutes of play. About a minute later, respectively, junior Hunter Brackett (Harwick Port, Mass.) tallied a score at the 3:57 mark to make it 3-0 Hawks. Southern N.H. went on the man advantage shortly after with Matt Amante answering for the Penmen with a goal at the 4:20 mark.
- Junior Mark Blaney (Braintree, Mass.) responded almost immediately after with his second goal of the season off the assist from senior Will Christensen (Ridgefield, Conn.) to put the Hawks up 4-1. At the 16:48 mark, Amante netted his second score of the afternoon on another power play chance to cut Saint Anselm's lead in half.
- The Penmen kicked off the final period of the game by firing six consecutive shots, five of which Carroll stopped. Both teams continued to exchange shots crossing the midway point of the period before Christensen found the back of the net at the 11:23 mark to extend Saint Anselm's led to 5-2.
- With under three minutes left in the game, Jack Gray tallied a score for the Penmen on their eighth power play opportunity to make it a 5-3 game. Senior Alec Grace (Laguna Hills, Calif.) and Linart each notched empty-net goals in the final minutes of the contest followed by an even-strength score from sophomore Jamison Alicandro (Shrewsbury, Mass.), his first collegiate goal as a Hawk, to seal their 8-3 victory over Southern N.H.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Saint Anselm held a slight 40-39 edge in total shots in the game and posted 36 shots on target in comparison to Southern N.H. with 32 on frame.
- The Penmen were favored from the faceoff dot winning 42-of-79 draws.
- The Hawks also held a slight edge in total blocks in the game posting 14 while the Penmen produced 13 blocks.
- All three of Southern N.H. goals came from power plays going 3-for-8 with the extra skater. Saint Anselm capitalized on their one power play in the game going 1-for-1 registering three total shots.
- Seven different Hawks scored in the conference victory with Linart tallying two goals, his first collegiate two-goal game as a Hawk.
- Carroll earned his seventh win between the pipes for Saint Anselm posting 36 saves and allowing three goals.
