HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Anselm continued their success from last night into the opening period of play as Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.) scored three minutes into the game off of a feed from Natasha Lozowchuk (Canmore, Alberta). The Hawks would continue to maintain pressure on the Eagles back line as Brooklyn Schneiderhan (Helena, Mont.) almost snuck the puck past the Eagles goalie. Then Post would find their skates and take possession. Although dominating the shot column, strong goal keeping from Clara Karunakar (Scarborough, Ontario, Canada) would keep them scoreless through the end of the first period.
- In dramatic fashion the Eagles would come out of the break scoring back-to-back goals in under 30-seconds to take a 2-1 advantage. Saint Anselm would struggle to respond, even with maintaining possession for the entirety of a power-play in the sixth minute. The remainder of the period would be an exchange of offensive stints for the two teams with neither being able to convert.
- In the final period of play Saint Anselm would come out of the locker room firing on all ends, ripping eight shots in the first five minutes compared to Post's two. The Hawks assault would continue through the seventh minute where senior Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) would even the playing field off of a feed from teammates Celesta Paolucci (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) and Schneiderhan. After scoring the Hawks continued to maintain possession for the majority of the remainder of regulation, with their best offensive look coming in the final minutes of play as Schneiderhan ripped a shot which gleamed off of the post, just missing the net. After tying in regulation the teams would head into overtime.
- In the overtime period both teams would begin with scoring opportunities, but Saint Anselm finding the best by earning a power-play off of a tripping penalty. Having a 4-3 advantage over Post the Hawks were able to string together four shots on goal, but strong goalkeeping from Saunders kept the Hawks scoreless through the extra time. The teams would go into a shootout to determine a winner, with both the first members being rejected by the opposing keepers. Schneiderhan would score the Hawks first shot, but would be equalized by Post's Farberman. Turner and Karunakar came out clutch for the Hawks, with one scoring and one rejecting a score to secure the Hawks win.
