HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Anselm began the evening on a high note winning the first face off of the evening and tallying three quick shots against the Greyhounds defensive line. The two teams would continue to battle back and forth exchanging shots and faceoff wins before in the 10th minute the visitors would have their first momentum change. A hooking penalty on Brooklyn Schneiderhan (Helena, Mont.) would give the Greyhounds a powerplay. Key goaltending from Clara Karunakar (Scarborough, Ontario) would keep the opposing team scoreless through the advantage. Eleven seconds later the Hawks would earn their own powerplay on a body checking call against Avalyn Mikkelson. The Hawks tallied four shots on goal but were unable to convert down the stretch. In the 15th minute the Greyhounds took their first advantage of the game as Kayla McGaffifan scored at even strength for Assumption. One last shot on goal would come from fifth year Celesta Paolucci (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) with no avail.
- The second period would come out of the gates with the same momentum as the first as the teams would continue to battle through runs of shots against each other's back lines, with Assumption taking the slight advantage in blocking more attacks from the Hawks. In the ninth minute of action in the period Schneiderhan would find redemption from her powerplay, scoring at even strength off of a feed from teammates senior Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) and freshman Justyce Ohlgren (Rogers, Minn.). Assumption would turn up the heat for the next six minutes of play outshooting the Hawks and forcing turnovers in the middle section of the ice. In the fifteenth minute the Greyhounds returned to their lead to one goal as Teagan Vaughan ripped an unassisted shot and score. In the final minute of play Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.) evened the score once more scoring all alone at even strength.
- In the final period of action, the two teams would struggle to find the back of the net, exchanging shots and power plays with no success and forcing overtime. Assumption would open the overtime drive with a shot from Alexi Kirkeby, who would be rejected by Karunakar. Down came the Hawks, Schneiderhan would ripped a shot towards goal but would be blocked by Vaughan. The Greyhounds would register one last shot on net, before a faceoff win from Lucy DeCoteau (Canton, N.Y,) would lead to a sudden death winning goal from the first year.
