HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Anselm started the first period with a shot from Nicola Forth (Schwenksville, Pa.), but was rejected by a Post keeper, Hannah Saunders. While there was no score during the period of action Saint Anselm outshot Post 18-9 with 16 of those shots being on target. The Hawks also registered the only powerplay of the period with 18-seconds left to go in the period. In net for the Hawks Ava Hills (Pembroke, N.H.) tallied five saves in the 20-minute segment and looked to continue into the second.
- The second period of action opened with Saint Anselm still at an advantage from the power play (hooking) call in the first period. Just over one-minute into the period Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.) would skate herself down the right side of the ice for a shot and score. The Hawks would look to maintain pressure as Brenna Young (Wilmington, Mass.) would rip a shot on target less than a minute after the score but was turned away by Saunders. Post would take control over the next ten minutes of action as the Hawks were plagued by two consecutive penalties leaving them down 3-5 on the ice. Hills would step up big for the Hawks rejecting every shot which came her way, including an impressive diving save. The period would come to an end with five back-to-back saves for Hills and zero goals for the visitors.
- The final period of action would be the most action packed for the two teams. Post would begin the action first, earning a powerplay on a tripping call on Heather McAvoy (Long Beach, N.Y.). The Eagles would quickly rip shots towards Hills, earning a top shelf score on the third shot from Dani Ammons evening the game at 1 a-piece. After this the Hawks skates took off and applied pressure on the Post backline. Back-to-back shots from the Hawks would lead to a holding penalty on the Eagles allowing the Saint Anselm squad to maintain their pressure, but with no reward. At 10:47 in the period off-setting penalties would occur against Young for tripping and Post for having too many players on the ice. Saint Anselm would capitalize on the 4 v 4 skate off. Senior Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) ripped the game-winning goal against the Eagles off of a deflection from the defenders. This lead would go on to stand, but not before the Eagles assaulted Hills with five back-to-back shots, the goalie would make impressive stops for the Hawks.
