HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The first half of play between the teams began at a slow pace, as the two teams exchanged possession in the midfield. Assumption would tally the first shot of the day just before the 4th minute of action as Mia Salah tabbed a shot on goal, but senior Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn.) turned away the shot. Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.) tabbed the Hawks first shot of the day, missing the cage by a few inches. Saint Anselm would register a penalty corner to end the first quarter, taken by fifth year Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.), but would be unable to break through. In the second quarter Lewandowski would tally the only shot for the Hawks while the Greyhounds would register three shots, only one on goal from Athena Comeau.
  • Saint Anselm opened the third quarter of action with back-to-back penalty corners, taken by Davis, but only registered one shot from Millie Forster (Cheshire, England), missing wide. In the 37th minute of play Assumption would strike, scoring off of a penalty corner taken by Julia Carbone. Carbone would play the ball into the circle and rip a shot off the post fed by Nova Rijks. Saint Anselm would tally two more shots in response with Lewandowski firing the solo one on goal. In the last 15-minutes of play Saint Anselm would register eight penalty corners with their best scoring opportunity coming at the 51st minute from senior Abby Breznyak (Oakland, Maine) getting a shot past the keeper, but rejected by Paige Gillette. Lewandowski would tally the last shot on goal, but the Hawks would fall in regulation 1-0.
