Morissette Scores 34 Points as Men's Basketball Falls to AIC in Conference Opener

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Josh Morissette (Exeter, N.H.) scored a game-high 34 points and knocked down nine three-pointers, but the Saint Anselm College men's basketball team fell in its Northeast-10 Conference opener to American International by a final score of 91-82 on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 
  • Both teams shot the ball efficiently in the contest. Saint Anselm shot 31 for 67 from the floor (46.3 percent), while American International shot 28 for 61 (45.9 percent).
  • The two sides also shot extremely well from long distance with the Hawks making 11 out of 23 attempts from deep (47.8 percent) compared to 14 made threes out of 29 attempts (48.3 percent) by the Yellow Jackets.
  • A huge discrepancy in the matchup came at the free throw line. Saint Anselm had a tough day at the stripe, making only nine out of 17 (52.9 percent). American International went nearly perfect at the foul line, going 21 for 23 (91.3 percent).
  • The Yellow Jackets held a 42-34 advantage in total rebounds and also grabbed seven offensive boards compared to six hauled in by the Hawks.
  • Saint Anselm outscored American International in the paint, 36-20, in fastbreak points, 29-19, and in second chance points, 8-5.
  • The Yellow Jackets bench had a strong outing with 37 points compared to just three points coming from the Hawks reserves.

  • Defensively, the Hawks had six steals and five blocks, while the Yellow Jackets had six steals and one block.
  • Morissette led Saint Anselm with a game-high 34 points (11-24 FG, 9-16 3PT, 3-5 FT). Junior Juju Ramirez (Lawrence, Kan.) posted his first double-double of the season with 18 points (8-15 FG) and 10 rebounds for the Hawks, while senior Sean McCarthy (Cork, Ireland) added 18 points (7-11 FG, 4-7 FT).
  • Five Yellow Jackets posted double figures in the scoring column led by Justice Ellison, who scored 20 points to go along with six assists and five rebounds.
  • This marked the 129th all-time meeting between these two programs. Saint Anselm falls to 82-47 overall against American International in the series that began in 1935.
