HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Anselm opened Sunday with an impressive 18-4 as MacNair would score five early points, with one big and-1. The Lions would look for a response after the opening run, cutting the lead to eight as Jade Dickson would score her own and-1 lay-up and Maria Stanescu tabbed a triple. Then the Hawks would begin to push pace and Tatum Forbes (Pawtucket, R.I.) would grab two trips to the free-throw line from the fast pace, giving them a 24-10 lead. The quarter would end on a made Dickson free throw to keep the game within eleven.
  • Junior Anna Nelson (Gorham, Maine.) scored Saint Anselm's first bucket of the second quarter on a feed from teammate Kaitlin McDonough (Wilton, N.Y.). McDonough would then score the next bucket for the Hawks in the paint off of a nice dish from Forbes. The success for the Hawks would continue as first year Addisen Sulikowski (Saco, Maine) tabbed another triple for the squad. Through the remainder of the first half Saint Anselm would continue to expand their lead, taking a 27-point lead going into halftime form a fast break bucket from senior Kyla Cunningham (Taunton, Mass.).
  • In the third quarter the Lions would break the Hawks stride scoring their first bucket, in the paint, in over five minutes of play. Forbes and Sulikowski would respond for Saint Anselm, as a dribble pull-up from Forbes and another triple from Sulikowski would extend the lead back over 25. The Hawks found their biggest lead, at 34 points, as Nelson scored four consecutive points.
  • In the fourth quarter freshman Avery Romps (Greenland, N.H,) found her first collegiate points cashing in a shot from behind the arch fed from Nelson around the horn. The Saint Anselm squad flirted with their 40-point lead for the remainder of the afternoon, exchanging buckets with the Lions. The final bucket for Saint Anselm would come from Brianna James (Norfolk, Mass.) as she found herself open in transition.
