HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • American International's Gabby Williams attempted the game's first shot about one minute into the match, but Saint Anselm dominated the first half after that. The Hawks fired the next 14 shots and earned four corner kicks, but could not find the back of the net.
  • Five of those shots by Saint Anselm were put on target in the opening 25 minutes, but American International goalkeeper Sara Avery was able to make saves on each one to keep the game scoreless.
  • In the 28th minute, senior Erin Rutherford (Ashburnham, Mass.) took a corner kick for the Hawks. Her left-footed, in-swinging ball hit off the outside of the near post and went out of play.
  • With about five minutes remaining in the first half, Alyssa Stetson put the first shot on frame for the Yellow Jackets, but it was saved by Hawks freshman goalkeeper Samantha Swidorski (Woodbury, Minn.) and the score stayed 0-0 at halftime.
  • American International produced a decent look at goal early in the second half with Cameron Wilbur forcing another stop out of Swidorski.
  • DiGilio came close to opening the scoring in the 56th minute. She got to work down the right wing and chipped a shot up and over the goalkeeper, but it bounced off the cross-bar before being cleared away.
  • In the 63rd minute, DiGilio broke through with her ninth goal of the season. Freshman Kaitlyn LeBrun (Natick, Mass.) served a cross into the box from the left wing. The ball was flicked on by sophomore Camryn Doyle (Norton, Mass.) and made its way to DiGilio at the back post, who finished with one touch to make it 1-0.
  • The Yellow Jackets responded about 10 minutes later when Sydney Mercier scored into the lower right corner off a feed from Lily Shields, which tied the score at 1-1.
  • Saint Anselm ended the game by outshooting American International, 9-0, in the final 15 minutes. The best chance for the Hawks came in the 81st minute when freshman Meghan Deneen (Marlborough, Mass.) headed a shot towards goal off a corner kick, but it was collected by Avery.
  • In the 86th minute, senior Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.) attempted a strike from long distance, but that effort hit off the left post and went out of bounds as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Saint Anselm held a dominant 30-7 advantage in total shot attempts as well as a 10-3 edge in shots on goal.
  • The Hawks also had 10 corner kicks in the match and did not allow their opponents to attempt any.
  • Saint Anselm was called for seven fouls compared to four called on American International. There were no cards issued in the game.
  • DiGilio scored her ninth goal of the season, which is tied for the lead in the NE10. The senior is leading the league outright with 23 points and is tied for second with five assists. DiGilio's nine goals and 23 points are both the most by a Hawk in a single season since 2018.
