WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Saint Anselm College women's volleyball team was upended by the University of New Haven in straight sets by a 3-0 final.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Chargers set the tone for the match in the first set of play taking an early 10-1 lead over the Hawks. Saint Anselm would find their first earned point bringing the score to 5-11 off of a Taylor Lacerda (Franklin, Mass.) kill. The New Haven squad would continue to capitalize off of strong swings going on a run opening the score to 19-8. Sophomore Melis Kocak (East Greenwich, R.I.) would score the final two point for the Hawks with two kills, but the Chargers would win the set 25-11.
- Saint Anselm began the second set off on a better foot, with Abigail Macalaguim (Chula Vista, Calif.) serving up two opening points. The Hawks would continue to roll taking a 6-4 lead off of a block from Kocak and a kill from Lacerda. The Chargers would go on a run of their own opening the score to 12-6 with both attacking and defensive plays. Saint Anselm would be able to register points off of errors from the home team, but New Haven would continue to apply pressure bringing the score to 19-10. Hollyn Frano (Cave Creek, Ariz.) would get herself on the board earning a kill accompanied by another Macalaguim service ace to keep the Hawks on the board. The remainder of the set would be controlled by the Chargers winning 25-14.
- New Haven exploded in the third set of the day going on a 12-0 run to start the final set. Once the score reached 17-3 in favor of the Chargers, the Hawks responded. Saint Anselm registered four kills from Sam Pila (Melbourne, Australia), Miia Dembski (Buffalo, N.Y.), and Frano. Frano would wrap up scoring for the team, tabbing two more kills and a service ace before the Chargers would win the set 25-12.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Frano led the offensive attack for the Hawks finishing with eight kills, three digs and a service ace.
- Macalaguim filled the stats for the team tabbing six assists, two service aces, six digs, and one kill on the evening.
- Defensively, Pila tallied the most digs with seven and also added four assists and a block.
- As a team, Saint Anselm finished the match with 16 kills, 27 digs, and four service aces.
