WORCESTER, Mass. – Six Hawks scored to lead the Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team to a 6-2 victory over the Greyhounds of Assumption University during New England Women's Hockey Alliance action on Friday night. Saint Anselm improved to an 11-3-1 conference record while the Greyhounds dropped to 5-8-1 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Greyhounds started the first period by firing four shot attempts forcing three early saves from freshman goalie Courtney Stagman (Andover, Minn.) and a block by senior Savannah Popick (South Windsor, Conn.). Sophomore Brooklyn Schneiderhan (Helena, Mont.) ripped the first shot of the game for Saint Anselm the ended up going wide of the goal. Freshman Hailey Tullo (Southwick, Mass.) posted a shot on frame at the 5:02 mark that Assumption goalie Carissa Mudrak denied.
- Both teams continued to exchange shots through the midway point of the period until Tullo blistered home a shot past Mudrak to give Saint Anselm the 1-0 lead, her first collegiate goal as a Hawk, with just under four minutes left to go in the period. The Hawks earned their first power play chance of the game late in the period following a slashing penalty on Alexa Hanrahan, but the score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Hawks heading into the break.
- The Hawks capitalized quickly in the second period with the extra skater thanks to a score by senior Maddy McCaffery (Weymouth, Mass.) off the helper from classmate Claire Weber (Marshfield, Mass.) to double Saint Anselm's advantage. Shortly after, the Hawks went on another power play opportunity and registered seven shots, five of which were stopped by Mudrak.
- Less than a minute after the Greyhounds killed the power play, Hanrahan notched the first goal of the game for Assumption to cut Saint Anselm's lead in half. Assumption would answer again at the 5:20 mark with a score by Kaitlyn Cielo to tie the game at 2-2. Stagman recorded two quick saves in the seventh minute denying both shots from Molly Walsh. Freshman Julianna Herman (The Pas, Manitoba) also had two goal-scoring chances after firing two consecutive shots on target for the Hawks.
- Saint Anselm picked up their third power play of the game after Delaney Williams was whistled for a hooking penalty. McCaffery ripped two shots on goal before getting called on a tripping penalty with seven minutes left in the period. Assumption went on the man-advantage again at the 16:35 mark however Saint Anselm's defense shined after not allowing a single shot on target including a block by junior Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn).
- The Hawks killed another Greyhound power play early in the third period with Stagman posting one save and Popick credited with a block to keep the score level at 2-2. At the 7:35 mark, junior Gracee Donovan (Orchard Park, N.Y.) found the back of the net off the assist from Tullo to put Saint Anselm back in the lead. Exactly one minute after Donovan's go-ahead goal, Popick joined in on the scoring tallying her third goal of the season to make it 4-2 Hawks.
- Saint Anselm extended their advantage to 5-2 thanks to a score by Schneiderhan, her eighth of the year, near the halfway point of the final period with Turner and junior Madi Ressler (Brighton, Mass.) earning the assists. Following the fifth Hawks goal, Stagman produced two saves along with a block by senior Brinna Martin (St. Michael, Minn.). Saint Anselm solidified their victory after Turner slotted the puck past Mudrak at the 18:38 mark to take game one over Assumption by a final score of 6-2.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Hawks outshot the Greyhounds 40-29 in the game and also held a 10-6 edge in total blocks featuring two blocks apiece from Popick, Ressler, and Weber.
- Both teams posted 25 faceoff wins with senior Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.) leading the Hawks after winning 10-of-18 faceoffs.
- Saint Anselm went 1-for-3 with the extra skater shooting a combined eight total shots while Assumption couldn't find the back of the net during their four power-play chances.
- Tullo notched her first colligate goal as a Hawk along with an assist in tonight's 6-2 victory. Popick, Turner, and Schneiderhan also recorded a goal and an assist in the game. McCaffery tallied her eighth score of the year while Donovan posted her ninth.
- Stagman registered 27 saves and allowed just two goals in net for Saint Anselm to earn her eighth win of the season.
