NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Saint Anselm College women's basketball team was taken down by Southern Connecticut State College during Northeast-10 Conference (NE10) action on Wednesday evening by a final score of 62-42.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore Tatum Forbes (Pawtucket, R.I.) dropped the opening four points for Saint Anselm finishing an and-one play after getting fouled and draining a three-pointer. Junior Katie Lemanski (Haymarket, Va.) made her first basket of the game followed by a layup from Forbes to put the Hawks ahead 8-6.
- The Owls then went on a 9-0 run kick-started by a triple from Jillian Martin to pull Southern Conn. St. away with a 15-8 advantage. Junior Marta Pons Gomez (Sevilla, Spain) and sophomore Anna Nelson (Gorham, Maine) each made a basket apiece, but the Owls would finish two late layups to close out the first quarter up 19-12.
- At the start of the second quarter, fifth-year Liv Robles (Wallingford, Conn.) finished a jump shot followed by two good free throw attempts by sophomore Harmony Marquez (Rutherford, N.J.) to narrow the Owls lead to just three points. Both teams continued to exchange baskets as Southern Conn. St. remained in the lead thanks to two good three-pointers to make it 27-20. Lemanski poured in four more points after going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line bringing the score to 27-24. A late basket by Hope Fox would seal the Owls 29-14 lead heading into halftime.
- Southern Conn. St. began the third quarter of the game by generating a 7-2 run with junior Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) making her second basket of the evening. Senior Alexa Quirolo (New Rochelle, N.Y.) finished two free throws with Nelson knocking a triple shortly after for the Hawks to make it 38-31. Marquez drained a three-pointer at the 2:30 mark however the Owls would extend their lead to 11 points after Delaney Haines hit a triple with just 14 seconds left in the quarter.
- Hoyt and Lemanski each made driving layups to get the final quarter of the game underway for Saint Anselm. Forbes would finish a basket after crossing the midway point of the quarter, but Southern Conn. St. would close out the game with an 8-0 run to cement the 62-42 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Owls shot 44.6% from the floor (25-56) while the Hawks went 14-48 from the field for a 29.2 shooting percentage.
- Southern Conn. St. held a 33-28 edge in total rebounds in the contest. The Owls also recorded 8 steals while the Hawks posted three steals.
- Southern Conn. St. found success in the paint after earning 32 points in comparison to Saint Anselm with 16 points made from the paint.
- Lemanski (2-9 FG, 4-4 FT), Hoyt (3-7 FG, 2-2 FT), and Forbes (3-4 FG, 1-1 3-FG, 1-1 FT) each scored eight points in the loss for Saint Anselm. Lemanski led the team with a career-high 10 rebounds along with two assists and a steal.
- Makenzie Helms led the Owls dropping 19 points (8-10 FG, 3-4 FT) to go along with two rebounds and a steal.
- This marked the 30th meeting between these two programs with Southern Conn. St. now holding an 18-12 record in the all-time series.
