SHELTON, Conn. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team took down Post University, 5-3, during the conference series finale on Saturday. The Hawks earned their fifth Northeast-10 Conference win of the season to drop the Eagles to a 2-13-1 league record.

- Saint Anselm travel to Colchester, Vt. on Friday, February 2 for a two-game conference series against the Purple Knights of Saint Michael's College. The game is slated for a 7:10 p.m. start time.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore Tim Duffy (Sudbury, Mass.) fired the forst shot on target of the game forcing an early save from Eagles goalie Drew Blodgett. Freshman netminder Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley, N.Y.), making his 17th start between the pipes, registered his first stop of the game to deny a shot by Ryan Cardow. After Saint Anselm killed the first Post power play of the contest, Nathan McDevitt wristed a shot into the back of the net to put the Eagles up 1-0 at the 5:49 mark.
- Both teams continued to exchange shots as the first period neared the end, but Post would double their advantage after a score by Tommy Buis to make it 2-0 with under five minutes left in the period. At the 19:21 mark, Saint Anselm earned their first power play chance following a tripping penalty on Post. Junior Hunter Brackett (Harwick Port, Mass.) wasted no time and buried the puck into the net to cut the Eagles lead to 2-1 seconds before closing out the period.
- At the 2:46 mark of the second period, the Hawks went on the man advantage again after Hugh McGuigan was called for interference. Junior Luke Mix (Winchester, Mass.) scored an unassisted goal just a few seconds into the power play to tie the game up at 2-2. A few minutes later, Post regained a 3-2 lead with Jake Aloi notching the go-ahead goal approaching the midway point of the period. The Eagles ended the period outshooting the Hawks 13-7 but the score would remain at 3-2 heading into the third.
- Carroll produced two quick saves for the Hawks in the opening minutes of the final period of the game. At the 8:39 mark, sophomore Garrett Alberti (Wilmington, Mass.) notched tallied a score off the assists from seniors Tommy Schwartz (Ridgefield, Conn.) and Jac Cordeiro (Barnstable, Mass.) to once again even the score at 3-3.
- Saint Anselm's offense began to generate some momentum resulting in a Sophomore Luke Linart (Holland, Mich.) goal at the 15:11 to give the Hawks a 4-3 edge. Junior Will van der Veen (Duxbury, Mass.) sealed Saint Anselm's victory with an empty netter goal to secure the 5-3 win over Post.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Saint Anselm held a slight 35-33 edge in total shots in the game while the Eagles registered 13 blocks in comparison to the Hawks 11 blocks.
- The Hawks won the faceoff battle winning 32-of-59 draws with junior Max Burum (Marshfield, Mass.) leading the team with 10 faceoff wins.
- The Eagles went 0-for-2 with the extra skater posting a combined three total shots between both power play chances. The Hawks went 2-for-2 in the game scoring on their first shot attempt of each power play.
- Five different Hawks found the back of the net in the conference win including back-to-back goals by Alberti and Linart in the series split. Brackett and Mix tallied a goal and an assist in the game while van der Veen notched his fourth score of the year.
- Cordeiro posted two assists in the contest while van der Veen led the team with three total blocks.
- Carroll picked up his sixth win of the season after making 30 total saves in net and allowing three goals.
