HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Hawks fired the opening three shots on frame forcing a few early saves from the Eagles goalie Drew Blodgett. Less than a minute into the period, Saint Anselm earned their first power play chance after Tommy Buis was whistled for cross-checking. The Eagles defense prevented the Hawks from registering a shot and with a few seconds left in the power play, Hugh McGuigan used his speed to score a short-handed
  • Shortly after, sophomore Garret Alberti (Wilmington, Mass.) answered for Saint Anselm by netting the equalizer off the helper from junior Mark Blaney (Braintree, Mass.) to make it a 1-1 game. The Hawks had another man advantage producing five shots, all of which Blodgett saved, featuring a pair of shots each by senior Tommy Schwartz (Ridgefield, Conn.) and junior Max Burum (Marshfield, Mass.). At the 10:53 mark, freshman goalie Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) posted his first save of the game to deny a shot by Tommy Buis. The Eagles would go on the man advantage to end the first period, but two blocks by Schwartz and one from Burum would keep the score level heading into the second.
  • Both teams exchanged shots to begin the second period before the Hawks earned their third power play of the game at the 1:08 mark. Sophomore Luke Linart (Holland, Mich.) and Jac Cordeiro (Barnstable, Mass.) each ripped a shot on target but the Blodgett would make the stops to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard. After each side killed a power play midway through the period, Linart found the back of the net at the 16:33 mark to put Saint Anselm ahead 2-1.
  • In the third period, Post quickly tied the game back up thanks to a score by Nathan McDevitt less than two minutes into the final period. Approaching the halfway point of the third, junior Richie Colarusso (Tewksbury, Mass.) fired a shot on target but Blodgett posted the stop. The Hawks would successfully kill another Eagles power play late in the period to force the game into overtime tied at 2-2.
  • Carroll recorded two early saves to start the overtime period for Saint Anselm. Junior Luke Mix (Winchester, Mass.) and Schwartz each ripped a shot in the final minutes of overtime.
