Men's Soccer Drops Non-Conference Game to Bentley University, 1-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's soccer team dropped a non-conference game on Wednesday afternoon to Bentley University by a final score of 1-0.

UP NEXT:
  • Saint Anselm is on the road for their next non-conference contest, facing Roberts Wesleyan University on Saturday, September 9th. The match is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. in Rochester, N.Y.
 HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Bentley registered the first shot on target at the 7:19 mark by Michael Haikal that was saved by Saint Anselm's goalkeeper sophomore David Hood (Manchester, N.H.). Shortly after, junior Lucas Bravo Ollé (Barcelona, Spain) ripped his first shot of the match for Saint Anselm that was snubbed by the Falcons keeper Nick Maldarella.
  • Hood recorded another save after Johann Fraser tried to put the ball into the bottom right corner. With a couple of minutes remaining in the first half, Evan Levine dribbled straight through the middle of the Hawks back line and managed to squeeze a low shot on frame that Hood was able to collect to keep the match tied at 0-0 heading into halftime.
  • The Falcon's offense was on the front foot early in the second half with Zach Spitznagle forcing a save from the Hawks' senior goalkeeper Alejandro Correal (Bogotá, Colombia) who checked into the match for Saint Anselm. Bentley had a chance to take the lead in the 74th minute after winning a free kick outside the 18-yard box. Haikal was able to bend the ball around the Hawks's four-man wall, but Correal's diving save kept the score level at 0-0.
  • Freshman Jake McCabe (Canton, Mass.) quickly responded by beating a Falcon defender on Bentley's end line, however his shot went over the crossbar and out of play.
  • The Falcons broke the goal drought in the 81st minute with Haikal drilling a shot off the crossbar and in from a free kick to give Bentley the 1-0 advantage. The Hawks continued to battle, but the game would end with the Falcons winning by a final score of 1-0.
