MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team suffered their first home loss of the season to the University of New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 6-1. The Hawks drop to a 0-2 record while the Wildcats improve to 2-0 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Saint Anselm quickly fired two shot attempts, one from junior Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) and another from senior Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.), in the opening minute of the first period. The Wildcats offense then took control outshooting the Hawks 8-1 in the ensuing six minutes of play forcing four saves from freshman goalie Courtney Stagman (Andover, Minn.) and blocks from junior Madi Ressler (Brighton, Mich.) and sophomore Heather McAvoy (Long Beach, N.Y.). New Hampshire took a 1-0 lead thanks to Kira Juodikis at the 7:07 mark off the Marina Alvarez and Kyla Bent.
- About six minutes later, the Hawks earned a power play after the Wildcats were called for a hooking penalty. Senior Brinna Martin (St. Michael, Minn.) soon found the back of the net from Resller and Turner passes to even the score to 1-1.
- Nicole Kelly was able to put the Wildcats back in the lead in the fifth minute of the second period with her goal. New Hampshire continued to dominate possession riffling 19 shots in the spanning of nine minutes with Stagman registering 12 saves in that duration. The Wildcats managed to score three goals in the remaining six minutes of the period to make it 5-1 heading into the third.
- Another score by Kelly extended the Wildcats advanatge to 6-1 early in the third period. Freshman Julianna Herman (The Pas, Manitoba) fired a late shot on frame that the Wildcats goalie was able to deny to eventually secure the 6-1 victory over the Hawks.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- New Hampshire outshot the Saint Anselm 46-19 in the season home opener.
- The Hawks recorded 13 total blocks while the Wildcats earned six blocks.
- Senior captain Maddy McCaffery (Weymouth, Mass.) led the squad with eight face-off wins and tallied one shot for the Hawks.
- Senior Brooklyn Schneiderhan (Helena, Mont.), Turner, and Tulchinsky each ripped three shots apiece in the game.
- Stagman made her second start in net for Saint Anselm posting a season-high 40 saves and allowing six goals after 60 minutes of play.
- This marked the second-ever meeting between these programs with the Wildcats remaining undefeated, 2-0, in the all-time series.
