Women's Ice Hockey Falls to Robert Morris, 6-1

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team fell to Robert Morris University on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 6-1. The Hawks drop to 0-3-0 on the season while the Colonials pick up their second win to go 2-1-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Colonials got on the score sheet at the 1:14 mark of the first period thanks to a goal from Mya Neugent to give Robert Morris a quick 1-0 edge. The Hawks responded by ripping 10 shots in a nine-minute span featuring three shots apiece from senior Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and senior Maddy McCaffery (Weymouth, Mass.). Junior Carina Mancini (Middlefield, Conn.) produced five saves in net for Saint Anselm to keep the score at 1-0 heading into the second period. 
  • In the opening six minutes of the second period, the Colonials doubled their advantage after Madison Primeau found the back of the net to make it 2-0. Mccaffery capitalized on a power play opportunity midway through the period scoring at the 10:34 mark off the assists from junior Tyra Tuner (Andover, Minn.) and junior Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.) to cut the Colonials lead in half. 
  • Junior Annabella Lalande (Lachute, Quebec), who checked into the game at the start of the second period, would make seven saves in the last 10 minutes of the period for the Hawks 
  • After Robert Morris outshot Saint Anselm 12-to-3 early in the third period, the Colonials would score their third goal of the contest at the 5:10 mark to make it 3-1. Midway through the final period, the Colonials posted two more goals approximately four minutes apart to extend their advantage to 5-1. Robert Morris sealed the 6-1 victory following a score by Alaina Giampietro in the last minute of the game. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Robert Morris outshot Saint Anselm 42-32 and also held a 42-23 advantage in face-off wins.  
  • McCaffery posted the lone goal of the game for Saint Anselm, her third of the season, to go along with three shot attempts and a block. 
  • Sophomore Brooklyn Schneiderhan (Helena, Mont.) led the Hawks with six total shots followed by Turner and Tulchinsky with four shot attempts apiece. 
  • The Colonials produced 19 total blocks while the Hawks earned 15 blocks with sophomore Ella Ridge (Chicago, Ill.) leading the team with three. 
  • Lalande picked up the loss after making 13 saves and allowing one goal. Mancini registered five saves and allowed one goal while freshman Courtney Stagman (Andover, Minn.) produced 18 saves in the third period for the Hawks.
