Hawks score four but fall to Robert Morris in series finale

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa.  – Seniors Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and Brooklyn Schneiderhan (Helena, Mont.) tallied two goals each, but the Saint Anselm women's ice hockey team came up short in the series finale against Robert Morris University on Sunday, falling 6-4 to the host Colonials at Clearview Arena. The loss drops the Hawks to 0-4-0 on the season while the Colonials improve to 3-1-0.

  • The Hawks return home and open New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) play on Friday, Oct. 13 & 14 against Assumption University. The series marks the first of three straight home contests for the Hawks, who will also host Stonehill on Oct. 20.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Anselm took the early 1-0 lead, as Schneiderhan tallied her first score of the season just 1:05 into the contest, scoring unassisted. Robert Morris answered with a power play goal in the 12th minute of the game and kept the score 1-1 after one.
  • The Colonials offense exploded for five goal in the second stanza while Saint Anselm's Tulchinsky added a power play goal in the 16th minute off a Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) pass to keep Saint Anselm within four scores.
  • In the third, the Saint Anselm defense solidified and the offense added two, including a short handed score from Tulchinsky, as the Hawks would add two in the closing frame but would still end the game short, falling 6-4.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Annabella Lalande (Lachute, Quebec) and Courtney Stagman (Andover, Minn.) split time in net for the Hawks. Lalande finished the day with 17 total saves while Stagman tallied 13 total, 11 in the third period.
  • The goals marked the first and second of the young season for both Tulchinsky and Schneiderhan.
  • Turner's assist was her fourth of the season, a team-high.
  • Saint Anselm posted 16 shots in the third period, their highest output on the afternoon, but Robert Morris held a 36-27 edge in total shots.
  • The Saint Anselm penalty kill continued to shine, finishing the day 2-5. On the season, Saint Anselm is holding opponents to a .188 PPG average (3-16).
