MANCHESTER, N.H.  – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team drew against Assumption University in the New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) opener at the Sullivan Arena on Friday night by a final score of 3-3. The Hawks are now 0-3-1 overall with the tie against the Greyhounds.
UP NEXT:
  • The Hawks wrap up the series against Assumption on Saturday, Oct. 14 with a 6:00 p.m. puck drop at the Sullivan Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Assumption got on the board first in the opening six minutes of the game after Ava McGaffigan rifled the puck past freshman goalie Courtney Stagman (Andover, Minn.) to give the Greyhounds the 1-0 edge. At the 13:58 mark, Assumption would double their advantage with a score from Kiersten Browning to go ahead 2-0 heading into the second period.
  • Midway through the second period, the Hawks capitalized on a power play opportunity cutting Assumption's lead in half following a goal from junior Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.). Junior Maddi Ressler (Brighton, Mich.) slotted a pass to Turner in front of the net who then squeezed the puck past the Greyhounds goalie Carissa Mudrak to make it 2-1. With just under four minutes left in the second period, Rachel Agerter put Assumption back up by two goals with her first collegiate score off the assist from Kaitlyn Cielo.
  • Sophomore Brooklyn Schneiderhan (Helena, Mont.) won Saint Anselm a power play after getting tripped up by Caroline Lilly in the final minute of the second period. With 33 seconds on the clock, senior Brinna Martin (St. Michael, Minn.) tallied off a wrist into the left side of the net to narrow the Greyhounds lead once again to 3-2.
  • At the 8:52 mark in the third period, Saint Anselm tied the game at 3-3 thanks to a score from junior Gracee Donovan (Orchard Park, N.Y.) after freshman Hailey Tullo (Southwick, Mass.) dished the puck down the left board. The Hawks had several scoring opportunities in overtime but Saint Anselm would settle for a 3-3 draw in their first NEWHA contest of the season.
