MANCHESTER, N.H.  – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team picked up its first New England Women's Hockey Alliance (NEWHA) victory in the weekend finale against Assumption University by a final score of 7-3. HOW IT HAPPENED:

A few minutes later, Johnson would be whistled for tripping to earn the Hawks their first power play of the game. Senior Savannah Popick (South Windsor, Conn.) buried the puck in the net to put Saint Anselm up 1-0 at the 9:07 mark. The Hawks doubled their lead after freshman Brenna Young (Wilmington, Mass.) squeezed the puck past Greyhounds goalie Katelyn Michals off her initial rebound. Assumption would strike at the 15:25 mark following a score from Sheridan Terrazzano to make it 2-1 heading into the second period.
  • The Greyhounds went on the power play early in the second period and capitalized in the 3rd minute to tie the game at 2-2. The Hawks responded shortly after thanks to a wrist shot goal by freshman Julianna Herman (The Pas, Manitoba) to regain a 3-2 lead. With eight minutes left in the period, junior Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) scored a short-handed goal for the Hawks giving the squad a two-goal advantage at the end of the second period.
  • Cielo tallied her second goal of the game for Assumption on a power play early in the third period to make it a 4-3 game.
  • Midway through the period, the Hawks posted two goals in the span of two minutes to pull away with a 6-3 lead. Herman would register her second score of the night at the 9:31 mark followed by a goal from sophomore Brooklyn Schniederhan (Helena, Mont.) with 11:46 on the clock.
  • Senior Celesta Paolucci (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) would seal the 7-3 win for Saint Anselm with under five minutes remaining in the game after pouncing on the loose puck from her initial shot attempt to help secure the first conference win of the season.
