HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The start of the game was a display of both team's defense strength with no shots produced until the last two minutes of the first period. Junior Grace Michael (Hampton Falls, N.H.) fired her first shot of the season after Saint Anselm won a penalty corner but her shot ended up getting blocked.

Shortly after, the Hawks earned their third penalty corner where sophomore Marissa Politano (Acton, Mass.) lifted the ball toward the Penmen goal where junior Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.) was able to deflect it midair into the back of the net to put Saint Anselm up 1-0.
  • About two minutes later, Davis collected the ball near the sideline and made a centering pass to junior Ava Rayfield (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine). Rayfield slotted the ball into the bottom left corner to give Saint Anselm a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
  • It was a quiet start to the third period until Saint Anselm tallied another score thanks to senior Abbey Bevens (Pelham, N.H.) who redirected the ball off the initial centering pass by Michael that and then tipped by Davis to lift the Hawks to a 3-0 advantage. At the 39:05 mark, Anne Wiersma put the Penmen on the board off the cross from Amelia Crocombe to make it a 3-1 game.
  • In the fourth period, senior Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) posted her first save of the night by denying a shot from Crocombe in the 52nd minute.
