Women’s Tennis downed by Bentley, 4-3

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Saint Anselm women's tennis team hosted Bentley on Wednesday, Sept. 26, and the visiting Falcons rallied to defeat the Hawks by a score of 4-3 in a dual match that came down to the final contest of the afternoon.

UP NEXT
  • The Hawks return to action on Saturday, Sept. 30 in a 1pm match at Assumption. Last fall the Hawks snapped a 12-match losing streak to the Greyhounds with a 5-2 victory at home.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The home team jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the match by earning victories in two of the three doubles competitions. The No. 3 tandem of junior Olivia Parzick (Bow, N.H.) and junior Julia Svor (Lewiston, Maine) put the Hawks on the board first, posting a 6-3 win, before sophomore Irene Garbo (Assemini, Sardinia, Italy) and sophomore Camila Heredia Osante (Oaxaca, Mexico) clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 (3) triumph at the No. 1 post.
  • Garbo's straight-set win at No. 1 singles, coupled with Julia Svor's  6-4, 6-2 win in the No. 6 slot, captured two more points for Saint Anselm. Bentley, however, earned three singles wins (No. 2, No. 4, and No. 5), to even the overall match at 3-3.
  • Heredia Osante took the first set, 6-4, at No. 3 singles, but her opponent, senior Remi LeSage, scored a second set win by the same score sending the contest to a deciding third set tiebreaker. Both sides had match point opportunities, but LeSage would eventually earn the win, 12-10, in the back-and-forth battle.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • The Hawks now sit at 3-3 overall, and the loss was Saint Anselm's first in Northeast-10 play, dropping the team to 2-1 in conference action.
  • Saint Anselm won the doubles point for the second consecutive match, earning victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions on both occasions.
  • Garbo and Heredia Osante hold a 4-1 record as a doubles tandem, all at the No.1 spot.
  • Julia Svor improved to 4-2 in singles action, and her victory over Bentley was good her fourth in a row on the fall campaign.
  • Garbo improved her No. 1 singles record to a sparkling 6-0 in dual match action.
  • All three NE10 dual matches have been decided by a 4-3 margin.
