HOW IT HAPPENED
- Pace registered the opening shot of the game by Noelle Meji at the 1:50 mark that would end up getting blocked. A few minutes later, the Setters earned a penalty corner that led to back-to-back shot attempts forcing two saves from the Hawks senior goalkeeper Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine). With under three minutes left in the first period, sophomore Maggie Burchill (Braintree, Mass.) tallied her first shot of the game that Setters netminder Celeste Pagliaroli saved.
- After a quiet start to the second period, Pace picked up a penalty corner at the 23:56 mark. Julia Eshleman ripped a shot that would go wide of the net and out of play. Before halftime, senior Abbey Bevens (Pelham, N.H.) managed to put a shot on target that Pagliaroli would deny keeping the game scoreless heading into the third period.
- The Setters were on the attack early posting two quick shots in the opening three minutes of the second half. Following a penalty corner taken by senior Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.), junior Chloe Kapsambelis (Merrimack, N.H.) fired a shot that got blocked. At the 41:56 mark, the Hawks earned their third corner of the period with Davis sending the ball to the top of the arc eventually finding junior Abby Breznyak (Oakland, Maine). Breznyak then drilled the ball to the center where sophomore Marissa Politano (Acton, Mass.) deflected the ball past Pagliaroli where Bevens was waiting to tap it into the backboard giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead. With seconds left in the period, Davis dished the ball to sophomore Marissa Politano (Acton, Mass.) who buried the ball to put Saint Anselm ahead 2-0.
- In the fourth period, Pace cut into the Hawks lead when Miranda Moshang connected on a penalty stroke making it 2-1 Hawks. Davis pushed the Saint Anselm lead back to two, finding the back of the net off an Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.) pass for the score at 48:45. Under a minute later, Pace scored again, this time as Julia Eshleman scored, unassisted, to again making it a one-score game. Two minutes later, Ava Rayfield (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) notched her second goal of the season off the assist from junior Stephanie Sutton-Brown (Ashby, Mass.) to put Saint Anselm in front by the eventual final score of 4-2.
