HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Adelphi started the game by winning the first penalty corner in the opening two minutes which resulted in a blocked shot from Elisabeth Seyfarth. Neither team produced any more shots ending the first period with the score still level at 0-0.
  • After the Hawks earned a quick penalty corner in the second period of play, junior Stephanie Sutton-Brown (Ashby, Mass.) ripped the first shot attempt for Saint Anselm that went wide. Senior goalkeeper Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) tallied her first save of the game in the fifth minute of the period to deny a shot from Faith Dillon. Saint Anselm put pressure on Adelphi's defense with sophomore Millie Forster (Cholmondeley, Cheshire, England) notching a shot that forced a defensive save from Kylie Peregoy. Seconds later, senior Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) pounced on the loose ball and put it into the back of the net to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead. Amanda Lee won a penalty stroke for Adelphi with under three minutes left before halftime. Junior goalkeeper Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn.) checked in for the penalty stroke and made the save to preserve the Hawk's 1-0 advantage.
  • Early in the third period, the Panthers attack generated momentum forcing three saves from McConnell before Emiline Biggin finally buried the ball into the net to tie the game at 1-1. Junior Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.) fired a shot that Amanda Montiel was able to steer out of danger. McConnell posted another late save in the match to keep the scoreline even at 1-1.
  • The fourth period began as a defensive battle for each team until the last three minutes of the match. Following a Saint Anselm penalty corner, Forster ripped a shot that would go through Montiel's legs putting the Hawks back in the lead. With seconds remaining in the contest, Saint Anselm stole the ball in Adelphi's defensive third as sophomore Maggie Burchill (Braintree, Mass.) sealed the 3-1 victory with her first goal of the season.
