 HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Maine at Fort Kent opened the scoring in the 17th minute of the game when Rohane Brown slipped a through-ball to teammate Michael German. Saint Anselm sophomore goalkeeper David Hood (Manchester, N.H.), who started the game in net, charged off his line and attempted to clear the ball away, but his clearance was blocked by German, who collected the loose ball and passed it into the open net to put the Bengals up, 1-0.
  • Just 30 seconds after the goal, Hawks senior captain Tucker Henry (Lee, N.H.) stole the ball from a Bengals defender and ripped a knuckling shot on goal, but it was steered aside by Maine at Fort Kent goalkeeper Romeo Daniels. The Hawks forced Daniels to make his second save of the match minutes later when junior Lucas Bravo Ollé (Sitges, Barcelona, Spain) clipped a ball over the top of the Bengals' back-line to his classmate, Caden Leader (Durham, N.H.), who fired a left-footed shot from the top of the box that was denied.
  • Hood made his first and only save of the match in the 34th minute after a sinking shot on goal by Maine at Fort Kent's Jahmal Pusey. The Bengals missed out on another opportunity when Ajay Chin's left-footed attempt was misfired over the bar following a corner kick.
  • The Hawks continued to increase the pressure late in the first half when freshman Jake McCabe (Canton, Mass.) received a ball over the top from junior Michael Provenzano (Stratham, N.H.). McCabe split two Bengals defenders on the dribble before curling a shot that hit the cross-bar.
  • Senior goalkeeper Alejandro Correal (Canton, Mass.), who entered the game after the halftime break for the Hawks, made his first save of the match five minutes into the second frame when he comfortably collected a shot from Maine at Fort Kent's Roualdo Wong. Correal also made a diving save later in the half on a shot by Deandre Smith.
  • In the 58th minute, Daniels was under pressure from the Hawks in his own box and cleared the ball out of play on the far sideline. Senior Zach Verow (Bedford, N.H.) quickly picked up the ball and threw it in to an open Leader, who dribbled towards goal and took a shot that was deflected by a Bengals defender before finding the back of the net to even the game at 1-1.
  • In the 65th minute, the Hawks came close to taking the lead after Henry served in a set-piece that found a wide open Verow on the back post. Verow's shot floated over the Bengals goalkeeper, but hit the cross bar and bounced away from goal. The Hawks missed another opportunity in the 76th minute when McCabe was open in the box but headed a shot wide off a serve from freshman Connor Lovely (Weymouth, Mass.).
  • The Bengals took the lead for good when German took advantage of a 2-on-1 situation by passing to his teammate Smith who volleyed home the game-winning goal from 10 yards out with just over five minutes remaining.
  • The Hawks had a few opportunities late, including a counter-attack that was stopped due to a red card on Maine at Fort Kent's Rohane Brown, but the game would end with a final score of 2-1.
