HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Molloy's Diogo Ferreira scored his first goal of the season after catching Hawks sophomore goalkeeper David Hood (Manchester, N.H.) off his line with just under a minute remaining in the first half. Hood attempted to haul in a Lions long ball at the top of the box before a teammate headed it away. The ball fell to the feet of Ferreira, who scored on the empty net from 20 yards out.
  • Hood redeemed himself in the 55th minute when he deflected a shot headed on goal by the Lions that went off the cross-bar. The rebound fell right to Molloy's Harvey Chahal, who attempted a shot from inside the six-yard box, forcing Hood to make a diving save.
  • Junior transfer Lucas Bravo Ollé (Sitges, Barcelona, Spain) had one of the best opportunities of the match for the Hawks in the 63rd minute, when he stole a pass near midfield and drove directly to the top of the box, firing a shot that was blocked by a Lions defender.
  • Saint Anselm came close to finding the back of the net in the 69th minute, when junior Aiden Lehane (Assonet, Mass.) drove down the right wing and fired a shot from outside of the box that missed just wide.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Molloy outshot Saint Anselm 7-6, with Molloy firing three shots on goal to the Hawks' two.
  • The Hawks attempted six corner kicks, while the Lions had just two.
  • Bravo Ollé and sophomore transfer Estevão Gouveia (Nashua, N.H.) led the Hawks with one shot on goal apiece in their Saint Anselm debuts.
  • Hood made three saves in his first collegiate start and appearance, while Molloy goalkeeper Dennis Mejia posted two saves.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
  • Hood and freshman Yves Maurer (Stoneham, Mass.) made their first collegiate starts and appearances, while sophomore Hunter Holland (Hampton, N.H.) also made his first collegiate start.
  • Freshman Connor Lovely (Weymouth, Mass.) appeared in his first collegiate game, coming off the bench in the second half for the Hawks, while junior James Poschmann (Bedford, N.H.) also made his Saint Anselm debut when he subbed on in the first half.
  • Saint Anselm falls to 1-1-0 all-time against Molloy, with the only other game between the two sides dating back to 2011 when the Hawks downed the Lions, 1-0.
  • The loss marks Saint Anselm's first loss in a season-opener in four years.
