7/13/2023 10:00:00 AM

MANCHESTER, N.H. – On Thursday morning, the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team announced its schedule for the 2023 season.

The Hawks will have head coach Bruno Victal at the helm for his eighth consecutive year. After posting a 7-9 overall record last season which matched the 2019 year for the highest winning percentage set in over a decade, the Hawks are eager to see what the 2023 season has in store.

Saint Anselm ended 2022 as the ninth seed in the Northeast-10 standings with a 4-7 conference record. The Hawks found the win column early in the year after going on a 5-game win streak that included a 1-0 victory over Southern New Hampshire University snapping the Penmen's 11-match unbeaten streak in the all-time series. During the win streak, the Hawks kept three clean sheets and allowed only two goals.

"The team had a great spring season," said head coach Victal. "The intensity during our sessions was incredible. We expect our student-athletes to come back in shape for preseason so we can continue to work towards our goals."

The Hawks will be led by senior captain Tucker Henry (Lee, N.H.) for the upcoming 2023 season. "Our entire senior class has given a great contribution so far to the growth of our program," commented head coach Victal. "In addition to that, we have also noticed some of our younger student-athletes showing positive leadership."

Saint Anselm will add seven incoming first years to their 2023 roster and two transfer student-athletes. "We have an extremely talented incoming class, and so far, they have checked all the boxes during the recruiting process," said head coach Victal. "The future looks bright, and we look forward to seeing how quickly they can adjust their game in order to play at the next level."

The Hawks kick off the new year at Molloy University, their first of four non-conference games, on August 31st with a 7:00 PM start time. The last and only time Saint Anselm played Molloy was in 2011, beating the Lions by a 1-0 final score.

Saint Anselm's home opener is scheduled for September 3rd against St. Thomas Aquinas College with a 1:00 PM kickoff. In the following match, the Hawks will begin Northeast-10 conference play hosting Bentley University on September 6th at Melucci Field. Other notable contests this season include Southern Connecticut State on September 23rd, the College of Saint Rose on September 26th, and Franklin Pierce on October 25th.
