MANCHESTER, N.H. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team grabbed a 20-8 Senior Day win over the College of Saint Rose to close the regular season on Saturday.
With the win, the Hawks, who are ranked No. 17 in the most recent ILWomen/IWLCA Division II Women's Lacrosse National poll, improve to 12-4 on the season with an 8-4 record in Northeast-10 Conference action. The Golden Knights, who are receiving votes in the same poll, see their season come to a close at 8-9 overall and 4-8 in conference play.
Saint Anselm has qualified for the NE10 postseason and will head to Bentley on Tuesday, May 2 in a First Round matchup.
Saturday's win marked the 12th of the season for the Hawks which is the second most in a single season in program history.
Seniors
Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) and
Taylor Cobain (East Greenwich, R.I.) led all student-athletes with five goals apiece. Cobain added two assists to her five goals for a game-high seven points. Junior
Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) added three goals and three assists for six points for the Hawks offense.
The Hawks wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Palmisano opened the scoring just 23 seconds into play before sophomore
Samantha Rivet (Sudbury, Mass.) doubled the Hawks lead at 9:02 of the first quarter.
The Golden Knights would net two of the next three goals before Rivet and Sullivan combined for a pair of goals in the final minute of the opening frame, giving the Hawks a 5-2 lead.
Saint Rose opened the second quarter with a goal from
Lauren Pendergast which was answered just 27 seconds later by Palmisano at 12:27.
Kaitlyn Jolly made the score 6-4 but the Hawks netted the final three goals of the second quarter from the crosses of Cobain, senior
Ellie Richards (Reading, Mass.), and junior
Maggie Fitzgerald (Holliston, Mass.) to take a 9-4 lead at the half.
Saint Anselm opened the second half with three goals in the first 3:21 from Fitzgerald, Richards, and Palmisano which pushed the advantage to eight at 12-4.
Eliza Barton snapped the six-goal run for the Hawks before the sides swapped consecutive goals which sent the teams to the fourth quarter with Saint Anselm leading 14-7.
The Hawks rattled off five consecutive goals in the fourth quarter to open a 19-7 lead. The sides traded scores in the final minutes, bringing the score to 20-8 in the Hawks favor in the regular season finale.
Saint Anselm held a 37-26 advantage in shot attempts including a 28-19 edge in shots on goal. Saint Rose collected 13 ground balls to 12 for Saint Anselm, however the Hawks grabbed 18 of 29 draw controls in the contest.
Palmisano collected a game-high 11 draw controls in the contest and eclipsed the 200-mark for her career, becoming just the second Saint Anselm student-athlete to reach that mark.
Senior
Quinn O'Rourke (Falmouth, Mass.) matched a game-high with three ground balls while Rivet and seniors
Annabelle Harrington (Tyngsborough, Mass.) and
Meghan Cotraro (Beverly, Mass.) caused one turnover each.
Sophomore
Elizabeth Driscoll (Marblehead, Mass.) stopped 11 shots on goal for the Hawks in her 12th win of the season from the cage.
